The Turkish Modernized PKM, The MMT Modern Machine Gun

In 2021, the Turkish state-owned company Machinery and Chemical Industry (MKE) introduced a new machine gun called the MMT, which stands for Modern Machine Gun. This development is not unique, as other NATO countries, such as Poland and Bulgaria, have previously produced their versions of the PKM chambered for the 7.62x51 NATO cartridge. These models include the UKM-2000/2013, MG-1M, and MG-M2. Some modifications made to these machine guns are simple. In contrast, others involve nearly redesigning the entire weapon to accommodate M-13 disintegrating links and a push-through feed system, resulting in a gun that closely resembles the PKM.

TFB Behind the Gun #167: Staker Precision & The SAM (Side ACOG Mount)

I’ve finally gotten the opportunity to get the creators of the somewhat infamous “SAM” or Side ACOG mount, on the TFB podcast. Today, Bo and Aaron of Staker Precision - the company behind the mount- join me to talk shop about one of the most peculiar yet functional dual-optic setups I’ve tried in quite a while. Bo and Aaron share how this entire project and product came about, and what led them to create the Side ACOG mount.

TFB Review: MDT ACC Elite Chassis System with Bergara B14-R 22LR Rifle

This is a review of the MDT ACC Elite for the Remington 700 Short Action footprint. When MDT dropped the original ACC chassis, it became very popular among precision rifle competitors. It brought modularity, balance, and performance together in a platform that many thought they could evolve with. Fast forward a few years, and MDT has doubled down with their most competition-focused chassis yet — the ACC Elite.

Wheelgun Wednesday: S&W Model 1917 - The GOAT Military Revolver

You could argue what classic military semi-auto pistol was the best. The Browning Hi-Power has a lot going for it. So does the Colt Model 1911. The Luger P08 scores a lot of style points; the Walther P38 wins on features. But if you’re talking about military revolvers, there’s only one that combines effectiveness with a long lifespan in military arsenals of a wide variety of users. Based on that criteria, the Smith & Wesson Model 1917 is the greatest military revolver of all time, and it’s not even close.

The Rise of the M60 to the M60E6

During World War II, the German Army introduced a new concept in universal or general-purpose machine guns. The MG 34 and the MG 42 were relatively lightweight guns that could be operated from bipods. They featured a quick-change barrel system and could use a soft mount on a tripod. After the war, as the dust settled, many nations, including the United States, examined German weapon technology. The U.S. was already very familiar with German weapons and was particularly interested in the designs and concepts aiming to replace its existing models, the M1919A4 and M1919A6.

POTD: The New Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite

I don’t know who runs Ruger’s social media, but I personally wouldn’t use a black and white photo (see at the bottom of this article) to illustrate the new model of the Mark IV 22/45 with a description mentioning its “bold color-matched details”. Luckily for this Photo Of The Day, there are multiple color images on Ruger’s homepage.

The Sooner State Goes Hot: New CBC Ammo Plant

CBC, a well-established company with over a century of experience producing ammunition brands like Magtech and SinterFire for military, law enforcement, and civilian use, is making a big move in the U.S. with a new facility in Oklahoma. This $300 million investment is a particularly significant step for American ammo manufacturing, as it will not only create jobs on a local level but also expand our US domestic ammo production capacity in an already pretty heavily stressed and often volatile industry.

TFB Review: The Strike A2 Blast Shield

The Strike A2 Blast Shield is one of the newest clever add-ons for AR-15s or M4s, this time specifically for rifles sporting the classic A2 birdcage muzzle device. Built to tame the concussive muzzle blast that can make range time less fun, especially in tight spaces, it’s a quick, tool-free upgrade that draws on Strike’s experience with their Oppressor series, which we’ve featured on the blog previously. Perfect for training, competing, or for anyone with an A2-equipped rifle, including 9mm PCCs, it’s a budget-friendly way to cut noise without a suppressor. Strike Industries was kind enough to send along a copy for us to check out, and after testing it thoroughly, here’s how the A2 Blast Shield stacks up.

We put this diminutive cartridge through our standard tests, this time using a Henry .22 Lever Action and at a much shorter distance. In addition, we’re back to using the  Garmin Xero C1 Pro Chronograph, to see how consistent this ammo is out of a very common platform we already know it won’t cycle in. Let’s get into it.

YouTuber Tests Russian DIY Counter-Drone Rounds

First Person View (PFV) drones in the Russo-Ukrainian conflict are one of the most dangerous threats to fighters of either side. We’ve already seen how shotguns can be a valuable last line of defense. However, it appears that many of the troops on the ground don’t have access to 12-gauge shotguns, a need that prompts improvisation. The YouTube Channel and blog The Armourer’s Bench documented the efforts of Russian soldiers trying to convert their issued rounds into “shotshells”. Another channel, Friendly Neighbourhood Rifleman, intrigued by the concept, decided to replicate and test these attempts.

Fudd Friday: The Remington 550-1's Useful Floating Chamber

In the firearms world, there's a certain breed of enthusiast often labeled a "Fudd" – that old-timer at the range who insists his wooden-stocked rifle from the Truman administration is superior to your modern plastic fantastic. While some are quick to roll their eyes at claims that "they don't make 'em like they used to," sometimes the old guard has a point. The Remington 550-1 is one of those rare cases where complicated old-school engineering actually delivered something genuinely special.
