The Kalashnikovs That Armed Vietnam

The Vietnam War drew in weapons from across the globe, as socialist nations rallied to support their revolutionary ally in the fight for reunification. Among the most significant contributions were the Kalashnikov-based rifles supplied by the Soviet Union and its allies. While traveling across Vietnam, I encountered many of these rifles on display, each representing a unique chapter of the war and international military aid. Here, I'll cover the AKs I could see and give a little overview of the Kalashnikov variants that found their way to the battlefields of Southeast Asia.

POTD: The Taurus 66 Combat

Photo Of The Day: For those who favour a medium-frame wheelgun with crisp sights and a short barrel for carry, Taurus answers with the 66 Combat. This one comes wearing a surprise: a seventh cartridge in the cylinder, perhaps perfect for Hollywood movies? Or perhaps to compete with all those “+1” after-market options for pistols? This drum is built for .357 Magnum power; it will also run .38 Special (standard and +P) with no fuss.

B&T’s Wild New Subguns Revealed: KH9S and KH9B

While visiting B&T’s headquarters in Switzerland, James gets hands-on with two new variants of one of the company’s most unique platforms: the KH9. If you're familiar with B&T’s KH9 series—short for “Karl’s Hobby,” a nod to its founder—you know it’s always been a bit of an oddball in the world of PCCs and SMGs. But these new versions might be the boldest iterations yet.

TFB Behind the Gun #189: Alex Whiteside w/ TANDEMKROSS

Most of you here will already know who TANDEMKROSS is, but today on TFB’s Behind The Gun Podcast, you’ll get a small peek behind the curtain at one of my favorite rimfire aftermarket parts manufacturers in the United States. Based in the small town of Weare, New Hampshire, TANDEMKROSS designs, manufactures, and ships all of its parts from its ever-growing facility. Today, they offer more than 250 individual parts for popular platforms like the Ruger PC Carbine, Ruger MK IV, Smith & Wesson Victory, and, of course, the Browning Buckmark series. What’s impressive is that in just the decade or so they’ve been in business, they’ve not only managed to carve a nice niche for themselves in the aftermarket space, but they’re also branching into manufacturing complete “10/22” style firearms completely made in their New Hampshire facility. Tune in to today’s episode to learn about all that and more from Alex Whiteside of TANDEMKROSS.

POTD: The Izhevsk SVT-40 Tokarev - The Rifle That Armed The Red Army

A 1940 Izhevsk SVT-40 Tokarev followed the photographer home, and with kind permission, TFB is sharing these images in our Photo Of The Day. Widely used during the Winter War, some 80 years ago, the SVT-40 (Samozaryadnaya Vintovka Tokareva) is a Soviet semi-automatic battle rifle designed by Fedor Tokarev. Adopted in 1940 as an improvement over the earlier SVT-38, it was chambered in 7.62×54mmR and intended to give Red Army infantry greater firepower than the standard Mosin-Nagant bolt-action rifle.

Hornady Announces New Ammunition for 2026

The National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW) has just named Hornady as the ammunition manufacturer of the year for the third consecutive year. That is quite a feat, and as we look at Hornady’s upcoming products for 2026, it’s clear they have no intention of stopping. The list of new products and part numbers is quite long, and if I try to make some sort of conclusion, I’d say the 2026 lineup broadens Hornady’s focus on precision and specialised hunting loads.

MCG Tactical Stinger Review: The $79 “Not-EOTECH”

I think we’ve all been there, or maybe the rest of you just have better taste than I do - Budget Optics. How cheap is too cheap? About a month ago, I was given the opportunity to test just one, but two MCG Tactical Stinger Combat Optics, which claim to be built to Mil Spec Precision so that they can survive the roughest conditions. Additionally, they claim in their copy that “it’s the same elite optic trusted by special ops, now available to civilians at a fraction of the cost.” Today, we’ll evaluate not only those claims but how the optic itself has actually performed so far.

TFB Review: Kahles K18i-2 - Maximum Field of View for Dynamic Shooting

In this review, we take a closer look at the new Kahles K18i-2 low power variable optic (LPVO), with a focus on practical shooting. Dynamic rifle shooting is a discipline that demands speed, precision, and adaptability. All at once, and under the pressure of getting the maximum out of yourself and your gear in as short a time as possible. Optics that don’t enhance your performance under these kinds of circumstances usually don’t stay on top competitors’ rifles for long.

Gun ranges can be intimidating. Dark rooms, poor service, confusing layouts—it’s a turn-off for new shooters and even seasoned enthusiasts. The Best Cheap AR-15

When someone asks me what AR to buy, there are two questions I always ask back: What are you intending to use the gun for, and what is your budget? If the answer to the first question is “working as a military contractor in a war zone,” then the answer to the second question should be high. However, for many people, an AR will perform some combination of duties like coyote blaster, soda can hunter, carbine class tool, and home defense gun. It is possible to get a lot of gun without breaking the bank, but some guns are much better deals than others.

Cheapest "Match" 2011 Tested: Girsan Witness 2311 S Match Review

The Cheapest “Match” 2011? That’s the hook. I took the Girsan 2311 S Match, a sub-$1,000, competition-style double-stack 1911, out for a proper range day to see what you actually get at this price. On paper, it checks a lot of boxes for the money. Five-inch bull barrel. About 41 ounces on the scale. Polymer grip module with an extended beavertail. Ambi safety. A railed full-length dust cover. An adjustable rear sight that doubles as the cover plate for a direct-mount RMSc footprint, so micro dots like the Holosun 407K can sit low without an adapter. It ships with Check-Mate magazines, one flush 17 and one extended 20, which matters if you are thinking about spares and match lengths.
