Silencer Saturday #445: Unregistered Silencers For All?

Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday, brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturer of the new Victra 20-gauge shotgun suppressor. It has actually happened. Licensed dealers have sold silencers to customers without NFA paperwork, and it was all legal. But the facts on the ground are very complicated. Dealers and customers alike are trying to figure out what is or is not legal. Let’s take a survey of the current status.

POTD: Underground Tactics - The Polish SGM's Bent Barrel

I visited the Military Museum in Wrocław, Poland, and came home with some interesting additions to my photo album and for TFB’s Photo Of The Day. My Polish is a bit weak, but if my findings are correct, we’re looking at a Polish wz 43, which was a licensed production version of the Soviet SG-43 Goryunov, chambered in 7.62×54mmR. This particular example represents a specialized variant with a curved barrel, a modification undertaken in post-war fortifications to enable firing around corners from fixed defensive positions without exposing the gun crew.

Fudd Friday: Your Allegedly Outdated Shotguns Are Still Usable

The market is filled with shotguns that were made for hunting, but are no longer used for that purpose, for two reasons. The first is that they only fire “short shells” (as my neighbors like to put it).

PKM Headspace And Keeping It In The Fight

For maintainers, particularly those supporting partner forces, the PK series offers a notable advantage over many Western and other Soviet-designed systems with its adjustable headspace. This feature significantly simplifies sustainment and repair in austere environments, with the ability to mismatch parts to keep guns up and set the headspace to keep them safe to operate. Unlike the AK, which requires careful bolt matching to achieve correct headspace and often demands higher-level support for barrel replacement, the PK allows maintainers to compensate for wear and component replacement through adjustment. This capability reduces downtime, eases logistical burdens, and keeps weapons operational longer.

POTD: The Royal Bermuda Regiment With H&K L104A2

Over 3,000 miles from home, and still training hard. More than 100 soldiers of the Royal Bermuda Regiment travelled to the UK in May 2026 for Exercise Active Shield 26, the battalion's annual overseas camp and the focal point of its collective training year. The exercise opened at Lydd Camp in Kent, where RBR troops alongside eight members of the Cayman Islands Regiment worked through public order scenarios in a purpose-built facility with The Royal Lancers playing the role of the crowd. By the time the camp wrapped at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, the syllabus had expanded to include 300-metre range work, urban operations, and baton gun familiarization.

If you happened to miss that article, be sure to click the link here to check it out. This week, I want to look at some common mistakes people make when carrying a concealed handgun where they carry entirely too much and it starts to negatively affect you over time. Let's take a closer look at when less means more.

Hawkins Precision TM: The Modular Mount For Precision Rifle Work

The mount footprint is shorter than most one-piece cantilevers, which lets it sit on both full-length and split rail actions without forcing a compromise on scope clearance or optical alignment. That's practical engineering for shooters moving between platforms or building rifles on Remage actions where rail real estate gets tight. The cross-bolt design pins the scope securely in place, and the integrated bubble level lives in the top cap, letting you verify cant from your shooting position without breaking visual focus.

New Zealand Arms Bill Passes Third Reading

The bill says most of the replacement law is intended to commence on September 23, 2026, with the complete package phased in by February 23, 2028. Those dates explain why different provisions may change at different times. They do not eliminate Royal Assent or the need for supporting regulations and agency guidance.

POTD: The H&K G11 - Tomorrow's Rifle, Yesterday's Budget

The G11 represents a peculiar Cold War tragedy: a rifle so technically advanced that it arrived exactly at the moment its creator could no longer afford it. Developed across two decades by a West German consortium and completed in 1990, this caseless-ammunition assault rifle was supposed to define NATO's second-generation infantry firepower. Instead, it vanished into H&K's Gray Room like a weapon from an alternate timeline that refused to happen.

Wheelgun Wednesday: This Hideout Revolver Is A Colt CCW Rarity

Colt was the king of the wheelgun world in the 1800s, even though other manufacturers made arguably better revolvers. That’s because Colt’s reputation was built on the rough, tough frontier; they were the first company to sell revolvers, and their handguns were arguably the reason that Texans were able to fight off the Comanche warriors during the 1840s and 1850s. That was the start of decades of revolver firepower dominating the West, from the Mexican-American War to the California Gold Rush to the Civil War and the Indian Wars. Colt made full-sized revolvers that dominated the battlefields as well as personal conflicts in frontier towns.

AMTAC Announces the Minuteman II Slim Knife

Bill Rapier over at Amtac Blades is rolling out a slimmer version of one of his most established fixed blades. The Minuteman II Slim keeps the same 4-inch full flat ground blade and 7 3/4-inch overall length as the standard Minuteman II, but drops blade stock from 3/16 inch to 0.15 inch, about a 20 percent reduction. That thinner stock also cuts blade weight from 4.7 ounces to 4.3 ounces. Handle length remains at 3 3/4 inches, so the Slim fits in the same low-profile belt sheaths as the rest of the Minuteman II line. MagnaCut, like other offerings, will remain as the blade steel, trading a bit of edge retention against something like M390 (like my NorthmanX) for better toughness and corrosion resistance.

POTD: Ukrainian Security Service With CZ Scorpion & BREN 2

The Security Service of Ukraine's Main Directorate of Internal Security usually doesn't headline its work. What surfaces are the weapons: CZ Scorpion EVO 3 and BREN 2, both proven submachine gun and rifle platforms trusted across European law enforcement and military units. The sights look like they’re from Aimpoint.

PEW Science Tests the OCL Infinity 556K

The rear of the Infinity 556K accepts common HUB-pattern mounts, but PEW Science specifically cautions against assuming that every compatible muzzle device will preserve the measured behavior. POTD: Novel Star-Pattern Magazine Coupler from HERA Arms

Magazine couplers aren't new, but the geometry matters. HERA's CF Coupler in a three-way star configuration challenges the standard linear setup by arranging three ten-round magazines in a radial pattern around a central hub. The logic is immediate: faster transitions between mags. This is what happens when magazine restrictions enters legislation, and creativity takes over.
