Theon International Plc has announced what is described as the largest single night vision procurement ever placed by a European NATO member. OCCAR has finalized a contract revision with the THEON and Hensoldt consortium for an additional 100,000 Mikron binocular night vision goggles for the German Bundeswehr, along with a firm order for 4,000 units for the Belgian Armed Forces. The total value of the agreement is reported at approximately €1 billion.

From the signing of the agreement: Representatives from OCCAR, German and Belgian MoD, THEON and Hensoldt.

This new order builds on earlier OCCAR contracts covering 66,000 NVGs for Germany and 8,000 for Belgium, most of which have already been delivered. With the latest award included, the program now accounts for roughly 200,000 devices when options are considered. THEON states that this secures strong production visibility through 2029 and further reinforces its position as the largest supplier of night vision equipment in Europe.

The contract once again specifies the Mikron binocular system powered by 16 mm image intensifier tubes from Exosens. Earlier in December, THEON extended its long-term supply agreement with Exosens, securing access to more than 400,000 tubes through 2030. According to the company, this ensures coverage for all existing obligations with room to support additional orders.

Assembly work will continue to follow the consortium’s local fulfillment approach. A portion of production will take place at Hensoldt Theon NightVision in Wetzlar, Germany. To meet growing demand, HTN plans to relocate into significantly larger facilities during the second quarter of 2026 and expects to triple its workforce by year’s end.

From the signing of the agreement (from left): Mr. Christian Hadjiminas, Founder and CEO of THEON, Mr. Joachim Sucker, OCCAR-EA Director, Ms. Christina Canitz, Head of Hensoldt Optronics, Mr. Michael Holzmann, Managing Director of Hensoldt Theon Night Vision.

With this order included, THEON reports its year-to-date order intake at approximately €1.3 billion. When including newly added options, that figure rises to around €2 billion. The company’s current backlog, including options, now totals roughly €2.4 billion.

TFB never had so much Night Vision in one article before, and this NVG order is of unprecedented scale for a European NATO country, and one that may stand as the largest global procurement on record.
