Israel MOD & IDF Complete Distribution of Arad Rifles
The Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have completed the nationwide distribution of thousands of IWI Arad rifles to local rapid response teams, marking a key milestone in Israel’s community defense and readiness efforts.
IWI @ TFB:
The procurement, valued at approximately $31 million (NIS 100 million), was executed through the Ministry of Defense’s Defense Procurement Directorate (DPD), Land Acquisition Unit, under an agreement with IWI (Israel Weapon Industries). The program is part of a broader initiative led by IMOD and the IDF Ground Forces Command to strengthen security capabilities in civilian communities across the country.
In addition to the rifles themselves, the agreement includes a long-term maintenance package covering the next ten years. This support also extends to Meprolight M5 optical sights, which are being transferred from existing IDF inventories and mounted on the issued rifles.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the completion of this distribution establishes a standardized, Israeli-manufactured small-arms solution for rapid response teams. The move reflects lessons learned from recent operational experience and aligns with the Ministry’s strategy to expand and reinforce domestic defense production.
The IWI Arad 5.56×45mm is a modern, modular assault rifle developed by Israeli Weapon Industries for military and security forces. It uses a short-stroke gas piston system with an adjustable gas regulator for reliable operation in harsh conditions and suppressor use. The rifle features fully ambidextrous controls, a monolithic Picatinny top rail, and an M-LOK handguard for accessories. It feeds from standard AR15 magazines and is also available in 300 Blackout.
