Jacob Grey Firearms showed up at SHOT 2026 with the Recoil Reaper, a hydraulic pistol buffer system co-developed with Kyntech. We spoke with Tanner at the booth, who show us the recently new Nox 9, Hex Pro, which launched late last year, but the Recoil ReaperĀ is the newest product for this show. At $229.99 MSRP, this hydraulic buffer targets shooters looking for recoil management beyond traditional spring systems.

The Recoil ReaperĀ uses a hydraulic damping system instead of simple spring compression. A sealed hydraulic core converts recoil energy into controlled fluid motion, absorbing shock before it reaches your hand. According to them, the system maintains proper slide timing and cycling while reducing felt recoil and improving sight recovery.

Recoil Reaper Specifications:

  • MSRP: $229.99
  • Material: Stainless steel body with billet aluminum end caps
  • Weight: 2.5 ounces
  • Compatibility: All Commander Length 1911 and Double Stack 1911 style handguns
  • Sealed O-rings, serviceable design
  • Lifetime Jacob Grey warranty

Jacob Grey also updated their handgun lineup for 2026. Both the Ā Nox 9Ā and Hex ProĀ now feature all in-house billet components with no MIM parts from older models. The Nox 9 ($5,800 MSRP) runs a 5-inch all one-piece ported and comp barrel with a buttery smooth slide. The one-piece billet aluminum trigger is set at 2 pounds 12 ounces with an over-travel adjustment screw for tuning reset. The grip shape works for small and large hands without compromise.

The Hex ProĀ carries over features from the Nox with the same grip shape but different texture. The texture doesn't appear aggressive but locks in under grip pressure. Same 2 pound 12 ounce trigger with adjustment screw and all billet internals. The Hex Pro uses a 4.6-inch barrel with chunk port.

Later this year, Jacob Grey will release Limited versions of both the Nox 9Ā and Hex Pro. These non-ported variants target limited optics divisions in competition shooting. Are you interested in the Ā Recoil Reaper hydraulic bufferfor your 2011? Let us know in the comments below.

The "Recoil Reaper" is just an expensive version of the "short CMP" Sprinco 1911 buffer system (which is less than half the price of the "Recoil Reaper"). All the various 1911 buffer systems (including the simple plastic/nylon/rubber "shok buffs") for 1911 pistols share the same problem in that they take up space and limit the rearward slide travel which can cause reliability and functional problems in many 1911's.
