We are in the run-up to SHOT Show 2026, and new product releases are starting to roll in. Ruger's lineup of AR-15 rifles is undergoing some changes for 2026. The new Harrier models replace the AR-556 family and include some updated features.

Ruger @ TFB:

The Harrier series has two models at release, both with 16-inch barrels and free-floated MLOK handguards. The version with basic furniture (A2 grip, M4 waffle stock) has an MSRP of $699. Another model with Magpul furniture (K2 grip and DT carbine stock) lists for $749. The Magpul version also has a full-length rail at the 12 o'clock position on the handguard. Both the barrel and bolt carrier group have nitride finishes.

The product image page has a watermark stating "Proudly Made in Hebron, KY" which should ring a bell for some of you. That is the former homeplace of Anderson Manufacturing (RIP), the hated and beloved manufacturer known for its "poverty pony" rollmark. Ruger acquired Anderson when it went out of business, and it seems that the Harrier series is a result of incorporating Anderson into Ruger. Anderson stepped up their AR game in the last few years of their run (see Hop's review and my review of their Dissipator). So it'll be interesting to see how the new Harrier series performs.

So Ruger ARs are now "Mil-Spec" instead of "Ruger-Spec"? What a relief.

I don't see anything wrong with them. They look like decent "affordable" AR's and if they do have issues, Ruger will fix them. I honestly don't expect issues with them.
