At Enforce Tac 2026, Heckler & Koch continued to showcase its Modular Assault Rifle System,  now called the HK433 [MARS], alongside its compact counterpart, the HK433PDW. The HK433 is positioned as a modular 5.56×45 NATO platform intended for military and law enforcement users. It combines design elements from both the G36 and HK416 into a single system, with an emphasis on modularity, reliability, and cross-platform compatibility.

As part of the broader H&K MARS concept, the platform is designed to streamline logistics, maintenance, and training through shared components and a consistent manual of arms across variants.

The rifle features an indirect gas-operated system with a rotating bolt head and a two-stage, tool-free adjustable gas system for suppressor use. A non-reciprocating charging handle can be swapped from left to right without tools, while fully ambidextrous controls (including a 45-degree safety selector) support user adaptability.

The platform also allows users to choose between different lower receiver configurations, including AR-style push-button controls or paddle-style magazine releases.

Modularity extends to the furniture and interface options. The HK433 uses an M-LOK handguard with a continuous NATO STANAG 4694 top rail, and it supports a range of barrel lengths from 7 to 16.5 inches. The folding and telescopic stock can be adjusted for length of pull and cheek height, and can be folded without disabling the weapon’s operation.

All HK433 variants undergo NATO-standard testing, including exposure to extreme environmental conditions such as sand, mud, saltwater, and temperature extremes, underscoring its intended role as a service rifle in demanding environments.

A key highlight at Enforce Tac was the HK433PDW, available with 7-inch and 9-inch barrels. This compact variant is designed for close-quarters applications, including urban operations and vehicle deployment.

With a reduced overall length and weight starting at approximately 3.1 kg, the PDW version aims to offer a balance between the firepower of a rifle and the handling characteristics of a more compact weapon system.

Despite its reduced size, the HK433PDW retains the same operating system, controls, and modularity as the full-length rifle. This allows users to maintain consistency across platforms while adapting to mission-specific requirements.

Everyone is trying to showcase their products on H&K’s firearms, and here’s the new Aimpoint Duty RDS MR. For TFB’s review, check here.

The suppressor, hidden beneath the heat cover, is made by A-Tech.

To change the length of the PDW stock, you need to depress the buttons shown above.

What do you think about the HK433’s pistol grip?

The HK433PDW is available in black, FDE or Sniper Grey. The latter two shown here are the 11” and the PDW versions.

Worth noting is that all HK433 PWDs I can recall seeing have been equipped with suppressors from either ASE Utra (Finland) or A-Tech (Norway). Short 5.56 rifles/carbines certainly have their place, but they’re not very pleasant to shoot unless something’s done to the muzzle.

All in all, the HK433 family reflects Heckler & Koch’s approach to creating a scalable rifle system, with the PDW variant highlighting the platform’s flexibility for confined and high-mobility scenarios. Its commercial success still remains to be seen.

Unless they've done something innovative with the internals, the real innovation is the user interface, the ergonomics — which are perfect. Mag and bolt release are fully ambidextrous and easily reached with the trigger finger, and the charging handle is switchable left or right per user preference. All assault rifles, going forward, should mimic this layout.
