POTD: Russian MP-155 Setup Designed for Night & Day Drone Hunts

Today’s Photo of the Day features a specialized counter-UAS shotgun developed by the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, a subsidiary of the Kalashnikov Concern. Built on the MP-155 semi-automatic platform and configured for anti-drone roles, this variant made its public debut already at the Army 2024 exhibition. Chambered for 12/89 shells, the system is designed to handle high-energy loads, including cartridges with powder charges of 28 grams or more, giving it the reach needed to engage small, fast-moving aerial targets.

In this configuration, the MP-155 is outfitted with a full-length Picatinny rail on the receiver and a six-round magazine.

The layout supports the simultaneous use of a red-dot sight and a night-vision device, allowing operators to track and engage drones in both daylight and low-light conditions. I wish we knew more about the night vision optics, so if you have any insight, please add your knowledge in the comments.

That's a 1PN138 monocular mounted behind the optic. It's their pvs14 equivalent. That'd be super hard to shoot a drone with unless you already knew where it was. Most nods are head mounted for a reason and I've seen enough of the drone cam footage to know these aren't doing them a whole lot of good

Please tell me I’m wrong but isn’t 28 grams of powder = 400ish grains of powder? Do we mean 28 grams of shot which is around an ounce? Someone educate me.
