POTD: Reconnaissance Team On High Hawaiian Ground
In today’s Photo Of The Day, reconnaissance soldiers from the 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, are seen maintaining an observation point at Pōhakuloa Training Area in Hawaii. The images were taken during Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center Rotation 26-01, an exercise designed to test units in the demanding conditions of jungle and archipelagic operations.
The team remained in position for three days, enduring strong winds and blowing sand while conducting continuous reconnaissance. The extended mission required discipline, persistence, and the ability to remain focused despite environmental challenges. According to the Army, the exercise emphasized readiness and the ability to support large-scale combat operations across the Indo-Pacific region.
During the rotation, Sgt. Rafael Lopez also mentored junior soldiers, sharing experience in observation techniques, target recognition, and fieldcraft. The combination of mentorship and sustained fieldwork is said to demonstrate how reconnaissance units refine their skills and maintain proficiency in realistic training environments, and it gives us an insight into the equipment used - and a less touristic view of the island!
