The New Zastava .338 Norma Magnum Machine Gun

Zastava unveiled a new machine gun chambered in the increasingly popular .338 Norma Magnum prototype at the Partner 2025 arms expo in Belgrade. Partner 2025 (held September 23-26, 2025) was officially opened by the Serbian Ministry of Defense and showcased the country’s latest military technology. As a machine gun guy, observing Partner 2025, I took note of the Zastava .338 NM MG, and in my opinion, it is one of the exhibition’s most innovative infantry weapons. Overall, the system represents both a technical and strategic milestone: for the first time, Serbia joins the cadre of nations fielding next-generation medium machine guns in the .338 Norma Magnum caliber. With this entry, Zastava joins a small, select group of manufacturers and nations investigating or adopting the .338 Norma Magnum for medium/heavy machine guns, pushing the boundaries of automatic fire while keeping the company’s trademark emphasis on durability and battlefield practicality.

TFB Behind the Gun #196: Jason with Backup Tactical

In today’s episode, I’m joined by Jason B, the owner of Backup Tactical. Most of you will recognize Jason's company from some of the reviews we’ve done on his knives and aftermarket pistol parts. Today, Jason and I discuss everything from his early days as a shooter and New Yorker to his current life as a Florida Man and innovator of forward-thinking aftermarket pistol parts and knives. You can check out Jason’s complete range of parts and his new OTF knives, including the Stinger and Fat Butcher, at the Backup Tactical website. Building a Fix with the Men who Designed it

At Q, the philosophy is simple: “Nobody really cares what you do as long as you have fun,” said Nick Schaefer, one of the engineers behind many Q products. That attitude sets the tone for everything the team does, from design sessions to customer builds. It’s a mix of irreverence, deep engineering, and plenty of laughter — exactly what you’d expect from the crew that gave the world the Honey Badger and the Fix. Back in July, I was fortunate enough to get to spend a few days at Q and even got to build a few guns while there. Trust me, I was blown away by the offer to do a build when Q offered it to me, but now I get to share my experience with all of you.

POTD: Hunting With The LRWCI REPR Mk II Elite

Today’s photo brings some images from a recent autumn hunt. The LRWCI REPR Mk II Elite in OD Green doesn’t really blend in here, but it works. The rifle scope is the latest and greatest from Kahles, the 3.5-28x50 K328i. While it’s a great optic, it was not my first choice due to the fact that I’m on a driven hunt and the reticle on these high-powered scopes are never great on the lower range. That goes for the intensity of the illumination as well. That does NOT mean this is a bad optic, it’s pretty terrific to be honest, but it really shines for the longer ranges.

Wheelgun Wednesday: The Starr's Back, and It's Still Weird

Pietta just announced they're making the Starr Double Action again. I've wanted one of these for years, same as the  LeMat that just came back. Never shot one, never handled one, but I've been fascinated by them since I first saw the two-trigger setup in an old reference book.

MCG Dark Force Binoculars Review: A Fun Stocking Stuffer for Kiddos

Following up on our review of the MCG Tactical Stinger red dot— the $79 "not EOTech" that surprisingly held zero for some casual plinking, we’ll be taking a similar look at another budget piece of kit from the same crew: the Dark Force Night Vision Binoculars. Clocking in well under the price of even a single Gen 1 analog tube, these digital “Binoculars,” according to the MCG product page, promise "tactical advantage" in the dark with a screen, IR illuminator, and recording. But is this chinesium gadget a PVS-14 killer or just a fun toy for the truck bed? Spoiler: it's the latter, and I think that's mostly okay, especially for the right crowd.

A Reevaluation of Squad Lethality and Firepower, the New FN MTL-30

The U.S. Army’s selection of FN America’s MTL-30 (Multi-Purpose Tactical Launcher) as a leading entry in the Precision Grenadier System signals a significant shift, or more accurately, a reevaluation, in how infantry squads will project force at the small-unit level. The MTL-30 is a shoulder-fired, semi-automatic launcher chambered for 30mm medium-velocity flat trajectory grenades that blends rifle ergonomics with grenade-launcher, and the Army has already moved to mature the design under a Prototype Project Opportunity Notice. This is a reevaluation since the XM25, which was tested in Afghanistan in 2010, and the program was terminated in 2018.

Blast From The Past: The Smith & Wesson Model 5946

Welcome back to another edition of Blast From The Past. I recently picked up a handgun that has had a resurgence in popularity over the last couple of years. As a result, prices have begun to climb again on the third generation of Smith & Wesson handguns. I found a 5946 that I picked up from an online retailer and over the last few months, I have shot it and compared the 5946 to my 5906, so I have some good and bad to look at when it comes to these pistols. Picking up these types of handguns is always a risk, but if done correctly, they can be a great gun for the range. It's not impossible to find good deals out there, but you do have to be on the lookout harder than you had to be before. Let's take a closer look at the Smith & Wesson 5946.

POTD: Snipers at the European Best Sniper Team Competition

In today’s Photo of the Day, an Austrian sniper is seen engaging targets during the U.S. Army Europe and Africa European Best Sniper Team Competition. We don’t see the Steyr AUG too often, but this one is pushing the Aimpoint Micro as far as it can go, embracing it with a magnifier, laser and lights. I guess that’s another drawback of a bullpup: it’s difficult to keep a bipod on the front rail.

The Rimfire Report: Tips for Building an Off-Season Rimfire Trainer

I’ve been taught that the off‑season is where most hunts or shooting competitions are actually won. Once your tags for the season are filled or the ranges start slowing down for winter, and the big rifles are back in the safe, most hunters and competitors suddenly have more free mornings and time to get set up for the next season. But burning centerfire ammo, barrels, and components at winter prices feels like lighting money on fire, almost just for the entertainment. I’m a huge believer, however, that a properly set‑up .22 LR trainer lets you rehearse every part of your hunting (or general marksman) process without beating up your shoulder, your barrel, or your wallet. Today, we’ll go over what I think that looks like.
