TFB Review: Winchester Supreme 1-4x24mm LVPO Rifle Scope

Winchester recently established their own optics line under the name Winchester Supreme Optics, the launch of which included a slew of practical offerings. Right off the bat, Winchester Supreme Optics offers binoculars, rangefinders, spotting scopes, and rifle scopes. As the title of today’s review suggests, we’ll take a look at the Winchester Supreme 1-4x24mm LPVO rifle scope. Let’s see how Winchester’s first optics line checks out.

Winchester @ TFB & AllOutdoor:

WINCHESTER SUPREME 1-4X24MM LPVO REVIEW

The Winchester Supreme 1-4x rifle scope’s body is solidly built out of 6063-6T aluminum and is stated to withstand 800 G’s of recoil, while the 16.2 ounce weight is on par with its competition.

The reticle is a simple, black, duplex crosshair whose lines get thinner near the center for less obscuration of the target. The centermost portion of the reticle has a single point, whereas the crosshairs have been interrupted for even more visibility on target. The black center point can also be illuminated red by using the dial on the left side of the scope. This offers a nice contrast against dark colored targets, or during low-light hunts or range sessions. The illumination isn’t quite as bright as a red dot sight, but with 11 brightness settings, it adds a layer of practicality to the overall package. I will also say that the illuminated center dot is brighter to the naked eye than my camera.

4x magnification at 100 yards.

The windage and elevation turrets of the Winchester Supreme 1-4x24mm scope are capped, which may be a pro or a con depending on your stance on the topic. For newcomers to the shooting sports, capped turrets mean that you’ll need to unscrew caps to adjust the elevation or windage turrets. You can choose to leave the caps off, or just screw them back on after your hunt or range time. The adjustments are made in half (½) Minute of Angle (MOA) per click. Each click is both audible and tactile for feedback to the user. Each turret is notched for added grip, and each can be unscrewed to reset the turret to zero once you’ve zeroed your reticle to your point of aim. A penny fits perfectly to unscrew the turret for zeroing it out.

The magnification is changed via a knurled ring forward of the ocular lens. The magnification ring adjusts easily without the use of a lever or raised knuckle, which is good since there isn’t any. Although this gives the Winchester Supreme 1-4x rifle scope a sleeker functionality without having to worry about catching a lever on something. There’s also less magnification range to manipulate and I can switch from 1x to 4x with a couple of quick twists of the ring. The magnification indications are 1x, 1.5x, 2x, 2.5x, 3x, and 4x.

The Winchester Supreme 1-4x24mm Rifle Scope comes with a set of clear lens covers joined by two rubber straps.

RANGE TIME

The 1-4x magnification ratio isn’t as popular these days compared to 1-6x and 1-8x offerings. However, I’ve actually championed the 1-4x over the higher magnification LPVO scopes over the years, especially for Second Focal Plane (SFP) options. Although the Winchester Supreme 1-4x rifle scope doesn’t have a Ballistic Drop Compensator reticle, it does still have subtensions within the various features of the crosshairs, which means that you’ll need to be at the highest magnification to use the listed measurements (see the photo directly below). For my purposes, I didn’t need to use those subtensions, but they’re there in case anyone desires them.

The cows above were just shy of a mile away.

I mounted the Winchester Supreme 1-4x optic onto one of my 5.56x45mm NATO upper receivers in an Aero Precision 30mm scope mount. This combination was solid and looks good, too.

One of my tests with the Winchester Supreme 1-4x rifle scope was to see how well I could reach out and touch a steel target at 200 yards from standing, unsupported. I was able to manage seven hits out of ten shots on my 66 percent sized IPSC target while keeping the magnification at 2x and under. Naturally, after that experiment, everything else closer in was like using a laser beam thanks to the Winchester 1-4x scope.

At 1x above, you can see my target poking above the 200 yard berm.

This optic is intuitive and easy to manipulate. The magnification ring adjusts easily, but isn’t so loose that a bump will change it. While I didn’t have an opportunity to mount the Winchester 1-4x optic on a heavy recoiling rifle, I was extremely pleased with its performance and features. The 1x magnification wasn’t a true 1x, but it’s close enough for a budget rifle scope and will still clearly get the job done.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Winchester Supreme 1-4x rifle scope is a great optic on numerous levels. On one hand, the MSRP of $264.99 is a perfect price point for beginner optics, and the simplistic crosshair complements the basic utility. On the other hand, it offers image quality that surpasses what one would expect for the cost, and thus, shouldn’t be overlooked by more experienced shooters just based on the MSRP. If you’re looking for an LVPO scope for a practical rifle build, I recommend outfitting a rifle with the Winchester Supreme 1-4x24mm rifle scope. You can view and order the 1-4x optic HERE, or visit WinchesterOptics.com to see their whole lineup.
