It’s finally happening, boys. The CMP has just announced that it will begin selling surplus M14 rifles. This has been a hoped-for but unlikely step for many years; however, it seems like it is coming later this year.

We have previously covered the Wyoming State Shooting Complex, a major state-sponsored range facility coming to the Cody area. The site has now had an official groundbreaking, and the Civilian Marksmanship Program is stepping up to with a challenge grant to help fund the development. The CMP will match funding raised for the new complex up to $10 million. Their partnership in the site is far more than simple funding, though.

If you have always wanted a 1903A3 rifle to use as a shooter, you may be in luck! The Civilian Marksmanship Program is now selling reclaimed 1903A3 Springfield bolt-action rifles. These guns use receivers salvaged from guns that were, at one time, non-fireable, but now are back in action.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program is best known for selling surplus US military firearms like the M1 Garand and M1 Carbine, but supplies of many of those guns are running short. The CMP has been restoring previously nonfunctional guns to safe, usable condition and beginning to produce brand new copies of original guns. Many of these efforts were on display at SHOT Show 2026.
