CMP Moves Auctions To Gunbroker

Vintage military rifle collectors now have yet another reason to spend time on GunBroker. The Civilian Marksmanship Program has moved its auction operations onto that platform. Keep reading for all the details.

CMP has long funded its operations by selling surplus US military rifles. Those proceeds support youth marksmanship programs and competitions like the National Matches at Camp Perry. Many of those guns were run-of-the-mill staples like the M1 Garand. These were fine shooter and collector pieces, but were common.
But others were rare and worth considerably more money. Items like DARPA XM-3 sniper rifles or Unertl 10x USMC scopes made more sense to hit the auction block. While those were fetching some impressive price points, the CMP’s auction site was not what most people would call intuitive or user-friendly. It was also not the easiest to find. CMP addressed both of those issues by moving to the GunBroker platform.
Some eyebrows may be raised about moving to a for-profit provider rather than a CMP-operated site. But have no fear! The CMP’s page on GunBroker includes a quote stating “Since CMP is a non-profit, no extra fees will be charged on the GunBroker platform.” The first batch of guns sold out quickly, but more are on the way. Keep an eye on the CMP listings here.
