[SHOT 2025] Zastava Shows New VUK Titanium Suppressor

Zastava might be best-known for modern-day rifles adapted from ancient ComBloc patterns, but they know how to get with the times. Along with the modernized AKs on display in their SHOT Show booth, and the RPK rifle that’s finally made it to market after teasing last year, Zastava is also showing their new VUK suppressor, specifically built for 7.62x39 rifles.

Old cartridge, new technology
The 7.62x39 cartridge has been around since the 1940s, but that doesn’t mean you can’t apply new ideas to its use. In this case, Zastava’s VUK suppressor uses Purposely Induced Porosity (PIP) to cut about 32 dB off the rifle’s report. If you’re wondering what Purposely Induced Porosity is, you can read a patent explaining the technology here. And if that left you cross-eyed, let me explain it as easily as I can: The suppressor’s 3D-printed titanium chassis is filled with porous metal-foam material that reduces the muzzle blast as the gases vent through it along multiple outlet points. Along with providing excellent noise reduction, this is supposed to dissipate heat efficiently and reduce back pressure while also increasing reliability.
You can get an idea of what the PIP material looks like when you see the business end of the VUK suppressor below:
The PIP design also reduces weight, and is supposed to be long-lasting, holding up to hard-core usage. It’s rated for full-auto use.
Built for AKs
Zastava says the VUK suppressor is compatible with 7.62x39 and smaller calibers that have the same case capacity or less.
It’s 8.3 inches long and weighs 13.4 ounces, coming with a high-temperature Cerakote finish. The end that threads to your muzzle is 1.93 inches in diameter; the other end is 1.6 inches in diameter. The exterior of the suppressor is textured to give you an easy grip. It weighs only 0.85 pounds.
Zastava’s website doesn’t list a price for the VUK suppressor yet, but it does show it on its website as Available Now. Stay tuned, because it should be here soon in that case—hopefully at a price that works for AK owners.

Neat.
The AK market isn't what it used to be, in terms of ammo availability, but for the AK purists out there, different options are nice.
