Lodestar Launches LNK9 9mm Smart Pistol With Biometric Access
Lodestar Technology has introduced its first commercial firearm platform, the LNK9, a 9mm pistol designed to verify user authorization before the firearm can be operated. The LNK9 incorporates the company’s Safeguard User Interface system, which combines biometric authentication with PIN-pad entry. The system allows owners to manage authorized users while maintaining control over access to the firearm. There’s a left or right side configuration of the Biometric LandingPad™ depending on user preference.
The project was initiated by Lodestar co-founder and CEO Gareth Glaser, who envisioned integrating modern safety technology into a functional firearm platform. Development of the system was carried out together with Ginger Chandler, an industry veteran and the company’s co-founder and chief technology officer.
According to Lodestar, the LNK9 is intended to combine access-verification technology with a practical handgun design while maintaining reliability and owner control. The pistol is chambered in 9×19mm and is currently available directly through the company’s website.
According to the manufacturer, here’s how the system works:
“The LNK9 verifies the user's access before the firearm can be operated. The Safeguard User Interface™ integrates multiple methods of user authentication and owner authorization management.
- Biometric LandingPad™. Fingerprint recognition embedded in the grip verifies authorized users.
- PIN Pad Activation. A secondary authentication method allows access through a secure PIN entry.
- Lodestar Technology® Mobile Application. Owners can add or remove authorized users and adjust settings through a Bluetooth-connected mobile application compatible with iOS, Android and Google devices.
- InfoLights™. Integrated LED indicators display authentication status, battery level, and firearm readiness.
- Multiple Authorized Users. The system supports storage of up to 50 authorized fingerprints."
Furthermore, according to Lodestar:
“This section addresses common assumptions about individually verified firearms and explains how the system is designed to keep control and privacy with the owner.
- The LNK9 does not have GPS tracking capabilities, keeping the firearm fully private to the owner.
- The LNK9 functions as a fully self-contained system and does not connect to government, law enforcement, or third-party networks. No outside party has access to the firearm or its settings.
- Only authorized users designated by the owner can activate and operate the firearm. The system cannot be enabled, disabled, or operated remotely by anyone outside those authorized users.
- Biometric identity verification is processed and stored locally within the firearm. The system is not cloud-dependent, keeping biometric data private and contained on the device.
- The owner maintains full authority over user authorization and determines who is permitted to operate the firearm.”
The LNK9 has a listed MSRP of $979.99, and you can check out the details here: https://www.lodestartech.com/lnk9.html

Yay having to play with a fingerprint reader when the difference between life and death is measured in fractions of a second, and it only costs me a thousand dollars?! I'll take three!
Why do people insist on reviving this colossally stupid idea. Why.
