POTD: Tippmann Arms M4-22 - Rimfire Revolution

My friend asked me if he should get a Ruger 10/22 for “his kids”, as in for himself. His tricks may work with his wife, but a question like that is way too transparent for me. I remembered when I tried the Tippmann Arms M4-22 and suggested that instead.

Here it can be seen with Tippmann’s own red dot, a rimfire suppressor from A-Tec (Wave Carbon). The configuration is light enough for me to hold it. The thermal binoculars are from Pulsar.

Tippmann even has its own red dot, which worked just fine during my testing.

The big boys may be interested in the new Tippmann Arms M4-22 WMR MAGNUM ELITE, not pictured here, but for sure on my own wish list.

The charging handle on the Tippmann 22 is quite shorter than on a .223/556. Not sure if it shows, but I had just been to Alamo, Texas.

Do you think my friend should get a Ruger 10/22, a Tippmann like this one, or something else? He’ll be checking your recommendations, so please give it a shout.

Timing myself in a drill like El Pres or something with transitions, with an "AR-22" style rifle like the Tippman, back to back with a well tuned AR in 223/556, tells me that the transitions and not the splits on the same target are where the time is lost the most.

Maybe that's obvious to many, but I honestly expected my splits to be way faster with the AR-22's due to the lack of recoil and straight blowback operation. That wasn't really the case, not materially.

Anyway my point is that these can be great for training to be faster and more proficient with a rifle, especially if you can find a way to make the weight similar between the types.

I bought the Tippman for my daughter, No Eric, it really was for my daughter. She's in the National Guard and has it set up the same way as her duty weapon and her personal AR15. I wanted an AR style AR22 that the controls, such as LRBHO functioned the same as an AR. Feed and function has been great, accuracy has been on par with an unaltered 10/22, which I have four. The 25 round magazines are innovative and easy to load. Only regret was not picking up a shorter 10-round magazine for shooting off of the bench. I like it so much that I am probably going to pick up the Tippman Micro Compact Pistol and set it up with a brace. The target was 10 shots at 50 yards off a bench, the black square is 1"x1".
