[SHOT 2026] New Big-Bore Alpha Foxtrot Romulus
The Alpha Foxtrot Romulus already made waves as a budget-friendly version of the modernized 1911 platform. Now it’s available in .45 ACP, just as John Moses Browning would have intended, as well as the ever-increasing-in-popularity 10mm.

Harder-hitting rounds
In recent years, the updated 2011 platform (a modernized take on the 1911’s design principles) has seen many manufacturers build their pistols in 9x19mm in order to have higher-capacity mags, lower-cost ammo and reduced recoil. When Alpha Foxtrot introduced their Romulus series, it followed this pattern. Although they offered a wide range of barrel lengths and other options, all the Romulus models were in nine-millimeter, with mag capacity as high as 20 rounds.
Despite the popularity and practicality of the 9x19mm (and the FBI’s recent endorsement of this round), some people just want to shoot bigger holes. Especially in a 1911-style platform, which has been tied to .45 ACP since Day 1 (and even before—the 1911’s predecessor, John Moses Browning’s Model 1905, was also in .45 ACP). While many 1911s were sold in other calibers like .38 Super, the hard-hitting .45 round was what drew many shooters to the platform in the first place. Alpha Foxtrot is giving them what they want, building a big-bore Romulus that still has high-capacity mags—just not as high as their 9x19mm options. According to Alpha Foxtrot’s staff at SHOT Show’s range day, the new Romulus will come with 13-round capacity in both the .45 ACP and 10mm versions. Less than their 20-rounders available for the 9x19mm, yes, but that’s still a lot of lead to fling downrange (or at predators, two-legged or four-legged).
Alpha Foxtrot never gave us an MSRP but we’d expect a price tag in the same ballpark as their 9x19mm version of the Romulus (priced between $1,500 and $1,700, depending which version you want, as of January 2026—see here).
And expect most or all of the same features: A tactical rail for accessories such as a light. SUS416 stainless steel construction with DLC black finish on the slide and frame of the pistol. A black polymer grip. A cut-out for MOS optics bases, with adapter for Trijicon RMR and Holosun bases. A variety of barrel lengths, ambidextrous safety and flared magwell.
