POTD: Reborn as an Ak4 - PTR GIR 100 Transformation

Today’s POTD features the PTR GIR 100, a faithful U.S.-made interpretation of the Heckler & Koch G3, then rebuilt to copy the Swedish Ak4 battle rifle. Built around the classic roller‑delayed blowback system, the GIR 100 leans heavily into its Cold War roots with a parkerized finish and period-correct green furniture that immediately sets the tone. An 18-inch tapered barrel keeps the profile balanced, while the traditional steel SEF lower preserves the original manual-of-arms familiar to G3 users worldwide.

One notable detail is the absence of a permanently welded top rail, allowing shooters to run original claw-style mounts or carry handles, maintaining both authenticity and flexibility. Prefer a top rail? Then go for the PTR GIR 101 instead.

The furniture on these is rated “NRA GOOD”, indicating mechanically sound parts with only minor wear from handling and use, and no corrosion or damage that would affect function. It means that the handguard, pistol grip, and stock are not new. In addition, color variations are common, with different components often showing different shades of green.
