Looking for a bit more accuracy from your gobbler blaster? Mossberg is looking to up your scattergun marksmanship with new versions of the 500 and 835 pump-action turkey guns, coming with a Holosun red dot sight.

Mossberg @ TFB:

Maybe you think that isn’t such a big deal – shooters have been putting red-dot sights on shotguns for years. The difference here is that Mossberg’s new turkey guns do not rely on an accessory rail mounting system. Instead, they come with an olive green Holosun HS407K micro-dot mounted directly to the receiver, which has been pre-cut to accept the sight. This is a patent-pending design that Mossberg is also introducing across other shotguns in its lineup, including semi-auto and pump models, for both tactical or hunting models.

Other Mossberg shotguns also get the Optics-Ready treatment, like the 940 semi-auto seen here. (Image courtesy of Mossberg)

Mossberg’s PR says “These hunt-ready combos feature a Holosun HS407K micro dot sight that is mounted directly into the patent-pending optic cut on the 500 and 835 receivers. This open reflex sight has a 6 MOA Dot reticle; 12 brightness levels; unlimited eye relief; convenient battery tray; Shake Awake feature; and up to 50,000 hours battery life. And to enhance concealment, the sight features an olive finish which blends with the gun’s Greenleaf camo coverage.”

Aside from the new sight and the mounting design, it looks like these shotguns are basically the same twin-action bar, dual-extractor, aluminum receiver, tang safety design that Mossberg has sold for decades. Despite the new optic mount, the receivers are still drilled and tapped. They come with a fiber-optic front sight, extended chokes, sling swivel studs and a magazine capacity of 5+1. The 835 is chambered for 3.5-inch shells, in 12 gauge. Otherwise, the 20-gauge and 12-gauge models are chambered for 3-inch shells. All these shotguns come with 20-inch barrels, and they all have Mossy Oak Greenleaf finish.

Low mounted dots on shotgun is basically an infinitely distant bead sight with negligible parallax. No longer do you need 28 inches of barrel to get that kind of aiming precision. Innate shot dispersion pattern sold separately.
