In a typical pin and weld job, a gunsmith must affix the gas block before permanently attaching the muzzle device. That is because the gas block cannot fit over the vast majority of muzzle devices. Yankee Hill's muzzle devices on these barrels are the same diameter as the barrel, so any standard 0.750 gas block can slip over the muzzle device without interference. This also allows the end user to change the gas block without needing to drill out and remove the muzzle device if that needs to be done in the future.
Yankee Hill offers two models of pre-pinned barrels, one with a flash hider and one with a brake. Both have 1/7 twist rates so they can stabilize all common bullet weights. These barrels are made from 4150 steel with a melonite QPQ surface finish. Both barrels have mid-length gas systems and retail for $294. Head over to YHM (Sponsor of our long-running Silencer Saturday series) to check them out!
From the manufacturer:
“Pinned and welded for a legal 16+" overall length. The low profile muzzle device allows the use of any gas block with a .750" inside diameter. The YHM barrel features a 5.56x45mm NATO chamber for full compatibility with surplus mil-spec ammunition or commercial .223 Remington ammunition. Constructed of 4150 chrome-moly vanadium steel and coated by Melonite for ultimate surface protection. The melonite coating provides a thinner surface than chrome-lining, so bore friction is reduced for better accuracy. In addition, melonite is harder than chrome-lining providing a longer wear life. This barrel features a permanently attached Low Profile Flash Hider (YHM-24-A) that brings the overall length of the barrel to a legal 16".”
