A Word from Smith & Wesson on their 2nd Montana Highway Patrol Contract
Maryville, Tennessee - August, 2025 - Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ Global Select: SWBI), a leader in firearm manufacturing and design, is proud to announce a continued partnership with the Montana Highway Patrol.
“This year, 2025, marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Montana Highway Patrol. For most of those years our Patrolmen, now Troopers, were armed with a Smith & Wesson revolver or pistol. In addition to the Smith & Wesson M&P9 M2.0 that our Troopers carry on their person, we have recently selected Smith & Wesson to replace our aging patrol rifles. We look forward to continuing the excellent relationship we’ve developed with this American company and truly appreciate the reliability of their firearms and the customer service they provide,” said Major Chan Barry, Operations Commander, Montana Highway Patrol.
“Smith & Wesson takes pride in continuing the long-standing tradition of partnership with the Montana State Patrol, which has spanned many decades. Their ongoing use of our products, along with their inherent trust in our brand and after-sales support, stands as the highest form of endorsement. We are honored to serve as the standard patrol rifle and suppressor for the Montana State Patrol and look forward to many more years of this esteemed relationship," said Mark Smith, President & CEO.
Smith & Wesson has been securing law enforcement and military contracts for years, as that was the impetus for the name of their mainstay pistol: the M&P (Military & Police). Now, to see them expand out their offerings to include short-barrel rifles and silencers from Gemtech makes them a one-stop shop for police departments. As always, let us know all of your thoughts about Smith & Wesson and their newly secured 2nd contract with the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP) in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.

240 sworn officers at MHP. Hardly a major purchase, but hey they are solid gats.
MHP officers had some surplus M14’s I mounted some optics on years ago. The guns I saw were practically unissued TRW’s. They were recalled by the DOD for use in Afghanistan shortly thereafter and replaced with M16 A1’s with the aluminum selector lock between the grip and lower. I removed some of those too for officers. Later they purchased commercial semi auto Rock River LAR-15’s. They used to carry P229’s in .357 Sig but the ammo costs and availability killed those.
