Heckler & Koch Launches VP9A1 X - A New Balance of Size and Capacity
Heckler & Koch USA has announced a new addition to its VP9A1 pistol lineup with the release of the VP9A1 X, a configuration that blends features from both the compact and full-size models into a single, balanced package. Positioned between the VP9A1 K and the VP9A1 F, the new X model combines a shorter slide with full-capacity handling, aimed at shooters who want duty-level performance in a slightly more compact format.
The VP9A1 X uses the 4-inch barrel and slide assembly of the VP9A1 K, paired with the full-size frame of the VP9A1 F. This gives the pistol a standard 17-round magazine capacity while reducing overall slide length, a combination that should appeal to shooters looking for improved balance, faster presentation, or a more versatile carry-to-duty crossover option.
Like the rest of the VP9A1 family launched earlier this year, the VP9A1 X incorporates HK’s latest A1 updates. These include a revised grip frame with an integral magwell to aid reloads, a nickel-Teflon coated trigger bar for smoother operation and corrosion resistance, and enhanced controls designed to improve ergonomics and manipulation under stress. The pistol retains the VP9’s striker-fired operating system and reputation for reliability while refining user interface and shootability.
The VP9A1 X effectively fills the gap between the compact K and full-size F models, offering shooters another factory-configured option without requiring aftermarket mixing and matching of components. According to HK USA, VP9A1 X models are currently in stock and available for immediate shipment.
MSRP for the VP9A1 X – Cross over is from $1,049.
MSRP for the VP9A1 X – Optics Equipped w/ Holosun SCS is from $1,399.
“The crossover size of the ‘X’ is ideal for many customers today. The shorter slide allows for more compact carry or shorter holsters, a welcome addition for our Law Enforcement customers,” said HK Director of Sales & Business Development Nathan Schueth. “If this size seems familiar to you, that’s because it is the exact size of the original ‘A0’ VP9 that started it all. With the A1 improvements, +2 capacity increase, and 100% optics-ready configuration, the A1 X may be the right size for you.”
For shooters already invested in the VP9 platform, the VP9A1 X represents a practical middle ground that combines capacity, handling, and the latest VP9A1 refinements in a single factory package.

Like the Glock 19x/45. It's a 1911 "Commander" style. I like full size and CCO 1911s, Glock 17/19-43/48. I don't do "half measures". (Before yinz guys go nuts, I just joking with you, carry whatever you want. I just like my handgun like my women. Properly proportioned. 😁).
I miss my VP70z
