[SHOT 2026] Franklin Armory Prevail Bolt Action

Franklin Armory had several new things at SHOT Show Industry Day At The Range 2026, including the new Prevail bolt action rifle. This gun blends the best parts of controlled feed and push feed actions. We now have some rounds through the gun and can explain better how it works.

Franklin Armory @ TFB:

The Prevail has a new bolt system, which Franklin has dubbed “Total Round Control.” Traditional controlled-feed actions hold the cartridge under the extractor from the magazine into the chamber. If the bolt is pulled rearward before the round is seated in the chamber, it will extract and eject, unlike a push-feed gun. In that system, the base of the cartridge is not held by the bolt and is merely slid forward into the chamber, where the extractor snaps over the rim. Push feed guns are simpler and often have smoother bolt movement. Push feed guns can also chamber rounds single-loaded on top of the magazine, where controlled-feed guns generally need the rounds seated down in the magazine so that they slip under the extractor properly. Forcing the extractor on a controlled-feed gun to snap over the rim as the round chambers can break the extractor.

Franklin’s TRC system still controls the round as it feeds, but also safely loads rounds without feeding from the magazine. The large extractor slips over the rim as the base of the cartridge leaves the magazine, keeping control of the cartridge even if the bolt is “short stroked.” When the bolt closes, the ejector sets, which creates positive pressure on the cartridge. The ejector functions like those on a traditional push feed gun and helps eject the fired case with authority, even if the bolt is moved slowly.

The Prevail will be available initially in a short action with chamberings for 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Winchester, 6.5 PRC, and .300 WSM. The ultimate goal for the Prevail was creating a dangerous game rifle, and both long and magnum actions are planned as well. Switching between bolt heads and chamberings is very easy. The bolt head slips off the bolt body during disassembly with very little drama and can easily be swapped for a different size if necessary to change calibers. Barrel swaps are easy as well, thanks to the Zermatt pre-fit barrel pattern.

Prevail rifles with Fidelis carbon fiber barrels retail for $3899, and $3299 with fluted steel barrels. Barreled actions and standalone actions are planned as well. Look for the Prevail to begin shipping in Spring.

From the manufacturer:

At the heart of the new Prevail™ line is the all-new Total Round Control™ (TRC) Action. Franklin Armory’s TRC action is designed to control each round through the entire feeding and extraction cycle so nothing is left to chance. No longer will you be afflicted by the Push Feed (PF) versus Controlled Round Feed (CRF) dilemma. For the first time, hunters and long-range precision shooters alike can engage critical targets with the best of both worlds, while avoiding the failures of legacy bolt action designs.

I asked this on the teaser post and I'll ask it again here: Doesn't the CZ 600 line use an almost identical system?

After seeing the bolt here and looking at my CZ 600 bolt they look very similar, but maybe I'm missing something.
