[SHOT 2026] RIA Pak-Out FOLDING Pump Action Shotgun

We’ve all seen break-action shotguns and pump-action shotguns, but have you ever seen a break-action pump shotgun? Me neither, until SHOT Show 2026. Rock Island Armory’s Pak-Out folding 12-gauge may claim the title as the most unique new gun on the show floor this year.

SHOT 2026 @ TFB:

The Pak-Out looks like a standard pump-action shotgun in the unfolded configuration, but looks can be misleading. The pump is spring-loaded and returns to the forward position under spring tension. So, unlike traditional pump actions where the shooter pulls the pump to the rear before pushing it forward, on the Pak-Out, you pull the pump back, then let go, and it runs forward into battery on its own, sort of like working the bolt on an AK.

The even more interesting part is when the gun folds up. Simply push the rear sight assembly to the rear. This retracts a locking pin, allowing the receiver to fold forward on a pivot pin at the front of the receiver, much like an AR-15 receiver pivots open for cleaning. With the gun in the folded configuration, the magazine tube still retains the shells. This also means it is possible to load the magazine tube while the gun is broken open. On the shotgun version, the stock also folds to make a smaller overall package, but the pistol grip does not.

The Pak-Out was shown in two variations: a pistol grip only “other” firearm, and a traditional shotgun with a shoulder stock. One note, the PGO version is missing the front sight in these pictures, but it will have one when it reaches production. The Pak-Out is heading out to distributors at the time of writing, and the price point is anticipated to be somewhere between $550 and $750 for the shotgun model. The PGO will be about $50 less.

  • Instead of a folding pump shotgun, why not make a take down gun similar to the 1897 and 1912 pump guns?

Because rather than having two separate components that need to be put together, this might be faster and there's no chance of half of it being misplaced.
