Michigan State Police Adopts The SIG SAUER P320/M18 and P365 Pistols

In a press release from SIG Sauer, it’s stated that the Michigan State Police has fully adopted the SIG Sauer P320/M18 pistol, equipped with a SIG ROMEO-M17 optic and FOXTROT2R light, as their primary handgun system. The SIG P365 was chosen as their secondary firearm.
SIG Sauer @ TFB:
The SIG Sauer P320/M18 pistol can be seen below and is equipped with a manual safety. The M18 was recently issued to all branches of the U.S. Military and was chosen as the official sidearm of the U.S. Marine Corps. The P320-M18 is the commercial version.
The original press release reads as follows ( source):
“NEWINGTON, N.H., SIG SAUER, Inc. is proud to announce the Michigan State Police has fully transitioned their agency to the SIG SAUER P320/M18 pistol with a SIG ROMEO-M17 optic and FOXTROT2R light as their issued primary handgun system and the SIG SAUER P365 as their secondary firearm.
“We are proud the Michigan State Police chose SIG SAUER as its primary and secondary sidearm,” began Tom Jankiewicz, Executive Vice President, Law Enforcement Sales for SIG SAUER, Inc. “The Michigan State Police conducted an exhaustive testing process to determine the selection of SIG SAUER pistols.”
The SIG M18 was selected by the U.S. Army as part of the Modular Handgun System Program and is the P320 variant fielded by the United States Marines Corps. The P320/M18 will serve as the primary sidearm of the Michigan State Police. The SIG ROMEO-M17 red dot optic is military tested and assigned a NSN number, designed to meet the rigors of use by professional end users. The FOXTROT2R weapon-mounted white light was designed to meet the needs of tactical professionals. Together, this system provides a comprehensive, best in class primary handgun solution for the men and women who serve the Michigan State Police.
The P365 is a high-capacity micro-compact providing the Michigan State Police more capacity, concealability, and capability than other compact systems on the market. The ergonomic design of the P365 retains the characteristics of a full-sized pistol making it more effective than a typical concealable pistol, providing the Michigan State Police a highly concealable, reliable secondary firearm.
All SIG SAUER products are developed from the ground up to withstand the rigors of the professional user and we are proud to serve the Michigan State Police.”
The ROMEO-M17 is an American-built MIL-SPEC red dot, with 15 brightness settings, with 3 of the settings optimized for use with Gen 3+ NV devices. There’s a side-mounted CR2032 battery compartment with a threaded battery cap for easy battery changes without the need to remove the optic from the firearm. SIG Sauer specifies a minimum continuous runtime of 50,000 hours at the medium brightness setting.
The FOXTROT2R weapon-mounted white light delivers 700 Lumens and 20,000 Candela. Powered by FlexCore technology, it offers up to 1.5 hours of runtime with a 16340 rechargeable battery or CR123A. With two rail interface inserts, it ensures universal compatibility with various firearms.

BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! From the outfit that brought us the infamous "Red Squad" investigations in the early 1970's! Some folks never learn I guess. Wonder how many "negligent" shootings will result?
You are all missing the pure financial and legal GENIUS of picking the P320 for a LE agency. The US is a very litigious country. This is especially true, if the wrongful party has a history of misconduct and significant financial resources.
Will a couple officers get shot in the leg?
It’s possible. Their health insurance will cover the hospital bills and the officer will get their pension with retirement (or at least paid leave during recovery) due to being injured in the line of duty.
That said, if there is even a single officer involved shooting of a civilian (or criminal) which is remotely questionable and someone decides to file a lawsuit against the MSP for wrongful death or something, MSP can simply blame the whole thing on the P320, show all the evidence of problems, do some PR damage control and even join the original plaintiff in the case when they proceed to file a lawsuit against Sig in court. 🤣
All joking aside, unless Sig is giving this equipment to MSP literally for free (and even then), whoever is charge of making this deal needs to be investigated.
