POTD: Snipers at the European Best Sniper Team Competition
In today’s Photo of the Day, an Austrian sniper is seen engaging targets during the U.S. Army Europe and Africa European Best Sniper Team Competition. We don’t see the Steyr AUG too often, but this one is pushing the Aimpoint Micro as far as it can go, embracing it with a magnifier, laser and lights. I guess that’s another drawback of a bullpup: it’s difficult to keep a bipod on the front rail.
The event took place at the 7th Army Training Command’s Grafenwoehr Training Area in Germany on November 19, 2025. The competition is held annually and brings together Allied and Partner nation teams for a series of demanding marksmanship and fieldcraft challenges.
According to the U.S. Army, the European Best Sniper Team Competition is designed to build readiness through realistic, scenario-based tasks that test everything from precision shooting to communication under pressure. The event also aims to strengthen military cooperation and reinforce NATO interoperability, with participants sharing techniques and approaches to modern sniper employment.
