Big Badger Breaks Out: Three Calibers, One Strange Rifle

Chiappa Firearms has launched the Big Badger, a new single-shot rifle for the U.S. market in 2025, building on the success of their Little Badger. Available in .410, 30/30, and 350 Legend calibers, it offers a (strange) alternative to single-shot break-action rifles.

The Big Badger retains the single-shot design of the Little Badger, but introduces several practical features. Its break-action design allows the rifle to fold for easy transport and storage. A rail system on the receiver and chamber includes top and bottom rails, with MLOK slots on the sides for mounting optics, foregrips, or lights.

The steel rod stock, designed with a curved rifle grip, provides good balance and control, and includes a fixed recoil-absorbing buttpad. An adjustable cheek rest adds shooter comfort. All models feature a 20-inch barrel, with a trigger-shaped release to open the action and an extractor for easy cartridge removal.

The .410 model has a smooth bore, an integrated front sight post, and Beretta/Benelli Mobile Choke threads with an MC-1 modified choke. The 30/30 model features a 1:12 rifled bore, a threaded muzzle with a protector, but no sight post. The 350 Legend mirrors the 30/30’s setup but with a 1:16 twist rate. Each model measures 35 inches in length and weighs 5.5 pounds.

Details of the .410/20" BBL version.

Say what you want, but the design makes it easy to carry.

The only MSRP I could find was €357, or about $420, for the .410/20" BBL, which may give us an idea of the price range.

A little late, H&R made a folding .410 back in the 1940's, my dad, a state game warden in IL back then caught him & back then arresting officer could decide the fine on the spot. Since it was legal (18.2" barrel) dad kept the gun, but let the guy keep the game he shot except 1 rabbit (evidence). Still have it, killed many pheasants with it. Guy had it folded, hidden in a raincoat. No hunting license was the charge.

700 euros in Spain. I know our laws and government harassing gets firearms prices up, but almost twice the cost for an Italian-made (or other Euro-zone country) gun is getting from ridiculous to abusive.
