SILENCER SATURDAY #310: Goodbye 2023, Hello 2024

Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the new YHM R45 Multi-Host Suppressor. Last weekend we finished off a three part series on the SureFire SOCOM556 RC3 with some bolt action shooting. Today we say goodbye to 2023 and hello to 2024 with a brief reflection on a year’s worth of Silencer Saturday posts. Did you have a favorite new suppressor that debuted this year?

First, I would like to thank our sponsor Yankee Hill Machine (YHM). Without their support, a weekly series on silencers would not be possible. Sponsorship aside, YHM makes some of the best performing suppressors per dollar spent. The Turbo T3 for a 5.56mm host or the Resonator for a 7.62mm hosts are two of the best deals currently on the market. I’ve bolded this year’s YHM reviews in the list below.

We spent the month of August with some solid performers from Silencer Central – I am a fan of the Banish Backcountry. SilencerCo had quite a few new releases this year, including a re-release of the Sparrow in titanium. And AAC is making some plays with the Element 3 and the Ranger 7.

If 2023 had a theme, it would probably be ‘Back-Pressure Reduction’. Almost every major manufacturer has a rifle silencer that features gas flow pathways that vents pressure forward. Hat tip to HUXWRX (OSS) with their latest releases and for starting the modern trend of manipulating gas flow through the suppressor.

I have found a new appreciation for bolt action hosts this year. My suggestion, if you don’t already own one, is to invest in a 300BLK bolt action rifle, maybe cut the barrel down to 10” (ATF Form 1 approval first), and enjoy shooting subsonic rounds in one of the quietest centerfire setups available. I would even suggest a bolt action in 5.56x45mm – suppressed it is a fun and fairly cheap medium range target rifle. Check out the Ruger American Ranch line of hosts.

From all of us here at TFB we wish you all a safe and happy new year. Thank you for joining us every week and we look forward to bringing you more great content in 2024.

Thanks for reading. Be safe, have fun, and we’ll see you back here next weekend for another Silencer Saturday.

May 2024 be the year silencers are removed from the NFA, or even better the entire NFA/Hughes Amendment be struck down!

Impressive list of reviews for one year. Appreciate the hard work, Pete. Look forward to more in 24!
