Smith & Wesson Unveils The M&P9 Metal Compact Series

Smith & Wesson has announced its new M&P9 M2.0 Metal Compact series with a lightweight and rigid frame that the company promises will be a solid foundation for high performance. It might even make all the polymer naysayers finally give you their nod of approval. Maybe. The M&P9 M2.0 Metal Compact is built on the M&P Compact platform, providing very convenient compatibility with all M2.0 compact magazines, holsters, and palmswells.
There isn’t a whole lot to say about the platform as it has earned its renowned reputation for reliability and performance, including all the features you’d expect from a modern production handgun trusted by law enforcement and shooters worldwide. Some of these include an optic-ready slide that fits a variety of sights using Smith & Wesson’s C.O.R.E. system plates and a new flat-face trigger design that provides consistent finger placement for repeatable and accurate engagement.
Smith & Wesson optimizes the M&P9 with an 18-degree grip angle and enhanced texture for improved efficiency and handling, offering shooters a more natural point of aim, quick target and sight acquisition, and better recoil mitigation. Aggressive slide serrations contribute to the overall handling and manipulation of the action.
The new frame, made from 7075-T6 aluminum, features a Tungsten Gray Cerakote finish, as does the stainless steel slide. Each M&P9 M2.0 Metal Compact ships with white dot sights, four interchangeable palmswell grip inserts, and two 15-round magazines.
The new Smith & Wesson M&P9 M2.0 Metal Compact comes in 3.6” and a 4” variants with stainless steel Armornite finish barrels. Both models are available with or without a thumb safety, with thumb safety models also available in 10-round compliant versions, all with an MSRP of $899.
The M&P has been a popular choice among shooters for years, and aluminum frame versions have been a welcome addition. We even saw the M&P9 Metal HD – Spec Series V Steel Frame released at SHOT Show 2025 last month. Now you can have the Compact in a lightweight metal frame for a great carry companion.
