[SHOT 2025] Smith & Wesson M&P9 Metal HD Spec Series V Pistol
At SHOT Show 2025, Smith & Wesson introduced a number of handguns including new models of aluminum framed M&P pistols, Lipsey’s exclusive revolvers, no-lock classic series revolvers which you can learn about in the SHOT 2025 edition of Wheelgun Wednesday, and last but not least a stainless steel-framed M&P9 called Metal HD Spec Series V, the fifth gun in the Spec Series line. Let’s take a look at the specs and features of this new Smith & Wesson pistol.

“Our polymer M&P handguns have been widely recognized for their ergonomics and reliability. We took these trusted attributes and integrated them into a steel platform to help mitigate felt-coil, allowing users to keep their pistol running flat and fast. This new Spec Series offers an advantage in today’s dynamic shooting environments while delivering a premium look and feel,” said Corey Beaudreau, Product Manager.
Smith & Wesson M&P9 Metal HD Spec Series V is chambered in 9x19mm, has a 4.875” threaded stainless steel barrel and comes equipped with a Strike Industries compensator. It’s an optics-ready gun and has an extended magazine well to facilitate the insertion of its 23-round magazines. The magazine well and the optics cut cover are made of steel. The slide and the frame have a gray Armornite finish. The barrel, optics cut cover plate, magazine well and controls have a blue PVD finish. The M&P9 Metal HD Spec Series V pistol also features a newly designed flat-face aluminum trigger and C.O.R.E. green night sights. The overall weight of this pistol (without a magazine) is 2.31 lbs (almost 37 oz) and it has the following dimensions: length – 8.75”, width – 1.67”, height – 5.81”.
The MSRP of the Smith & Wesson M&P9 Metal HD Spec Series V pistol is $1699. This is a limited edition pistol with only 5000 samples to be manufactured. The pistol is shipped in a hard carry case and comes with three 23-round magazines, a Spec Series knife, four interchangeable palmswell grip inserts and a commemorative challenge coin.
I had a chance to shoot this pistol at a Smith & Wesson media event at Machine Gun Vegas and as one can expect from a full-size all-steel compensated 9mm pistol, it’s an extremely flat shooting firearm.

I like the blue PVD finish. Looks great, I want one.
Oh, look how they massacred my boy-- why did they have to make it so ugly? I'm sure it shoots phenomenally, but it looks like it shoots foam darts.
