SIG Sauer’s New 516-MOHAWK - Piston Power, Ambi Everything

SIG Sauer has released the 516-MOHAWK rifle. The rifle is chambered in 5.56 NATO and comes standard with a 16-inch cold hammer-forged barrel with a 1:7 twist rate. An adjustable gas block in combination with a short-stroke gas piston system allows for fine-tuning the performance for suppressors and harsh environments (as in you didn’t clean your gun well enough). The cam path and the feed ramp have steel reinforced components to handle wear over time.
SIG Sauer Rifles @ TFB:
Fully ambidextrous controls come standard, including the bolt catch, mag release, safety selector, and charging handle. Other standout components include a SIG Matchlite DUO curved trigger, a SIG flash hider, and a free-floating M-LOK handguard.
Below: Close-up of the steel non-reciprocating side charging handle. I have a similar system on one of my JP Rifles and my LWRCI Repr Mk II, and I really like it. The only drawback, in my opinion, is that you get a rifle with non-standardized AR parts.
In short, SIG 516-MOHAWK features:
- Short-Stroke Piston System Adjustable Gas System
- Free-Floating M-LOK Handguard
- Rear and Side Non-Reciprocating Charging Handles
- Steel Reinforced Components for High Wear Areas
- Fully Ambidextrous Controls
- Sig Flash Hider Compensator
- Matchlite Duo Curved Trigger
If you want to admire the new 516- MOHAWK from a variety of angles, here’s your chance:
The overall length is 36.5” with an extended stock and 33” collapsed. The weight is 7.7 lbs.
The Mohawk is coming soon, and we could not find any details about the price yet.

I wanted a Spear but without the picatinny rail on the back of the receiver. This seems to be it.
I'm not interested in having a folding stock. I want the recoil system that I'm familiar with. I have a bunch of stuff already to fine tune it with, if needed. And you know what else? It's cheaper. I'd rather put the money towards ammo and an ACOG. Also, if I had my druthers, I'd rather have a 1:8 twist. Thank you for asking, I appreciate your reply.
