The rear sights are tucked away behind that red dot, normally out of your field of vision, but there if you need them.

We already told you about  XS Sights’ plans for new lever-action rifle accessories, but that’s not all they had on display at SHOT this week. They also had examples of new sights for handguns, including both semi-auto pistols and revolvers.

XS Sights @ TFB:

Glock options

The big news for XS Sights here is their Glock Minimalist OR sight sets. The idea is that these allow the shooter to co-witness a pistol-mounted optic as well as XS’s rear sights. These sets are available with or without a glow-in-the-dark tritium front sight; the sights have serrations cut into the sights to reduce glare, and don’t interfere with using your red dot, but can be seen if your optic becomes disabled and you need backup irons.

From a side angle, you can see the sights are very much available to the shooter, if they decide to switch to irons.

While it might seem like a simple enough design, XS Sights’ rep says the company put a lot of effort into making this system working correctly, including changing the threads of some component screws from M4 to M3.5 to allow for the screws to grab more meat, so to speak, improving their engagement. This helps keep your sights mounted rock-solid.

Eventually, XS will have similar sight setups for all standard full-sized pistols.

Revolver options

XS Sights says it is busy gearing up with new sights for the revolver market, including new options for Colt, but its new brass-bead front sight for Smith & Wesson revolvers was grabbing attention on display at the show. Yes, they do offer their standard high-visibility front sights for wheelguns as well but the brass bead with a convex dot, hand-polished to a mirror finish to grab light, is a throwback to the days when highway patrolmen, city beat cops and other law enforcement counted on rugged wheelguns to keep them alive.

From this angle, you can just baaaarely see that brass bead poking out in the front sight. It's an old-school touch for shooters who prefer robust solutions to problems.

Expect to see more of this going ahead, as revolver sights continue to be big business for XS Sights.
