Kimber Shows Off Next Gen 1911

Kimber has a new series of 1911 pistols. The Next Gen series incorporates features from the 2K11 family of pistols. Let’s take a look at how these new pistols have changed from prior generations.

One of the most obvious changes on the Next Gen pistols is an external extractor. Almost every modern pistol uses this design, and fitting it to the 1911 can improve reliability over the older internal extractors. Another visible change is the optics mounting surface at the rear of the slide, covered by a plate with the rear sight assembly. An RMR-pattern optics plate is included with the pistol, as well as two magazines. The Kimber logo is also smaller and sits near the bottom of the slide, just in front of the rear serrations, rather than the very prominent location in the middle of the slide seen on earlier Kimber 1911s.
There are four models in the Next Gen series at this time: stainless and two-tone in both 9mm and .45 ACP. All models include grips with G10 inserts. The MSRP is $999 for all four models. Check out some photos of the pistols below:
From the manufacturer:
“The new Custom Two-Tone 1911 from Kimber capitalizes on the tremendous success of the 2K11 and carries over several features that have enhanced the performance of this Kimber hallmark. Featuring an optic-ready slide and external extractor, the new Custom Two-Tone provides flexibility to the shooter looking for a classic design style and the features of a 21st-century 1911. The internal changes include a sloped disconnector ramp and the GT Trigger, providing match-grade performance for the discerning enthusiast. Kimber continues to drive innovation forward with premium upgrades that deliver customized features right out of the box.”

Beef, your comment, while safe now, may not age well in the future
Battery cover screw fell off my friend’s green dot 1/3 of the way through a Defensive Handgun course last weekend. He had to shoot the remainder using the Force.
Like those above, I insist on iron sights. I don’t mind an optic option. However, it should co-witness with the irons.
