Different Kinds Of Handguns, Explained
When you hear the word “handgun,” the image in your mind could vary wildly. Everything from the cowboy revolvers of the Wild West to a modern pistol with a silencer, flashlight, red dot sight, and extended magazine fall into that category. If you are thinking about getting a handgun, understanding the various types is critical. Let’s break them down into categories that can help you find what you are looking for.
[SHOT 2025] XS Sights Has New Pistol Offerings At SHOT
We already told you about XS Sights’ plans for new lever-action rifle accessories, but that’s not all they had on display at SHOT this week. They also had examples of new sights for handguns, including both semi-auto pistols and revolvers.

POTD: Revolver That Fires Rubber Balls Using Blank Cartridges
This little wheelgun externally looks like a regular snubby however its design is quite unusual. Its ammunition consists of two components – 10mm rubber balls and 5.6x16 rimfire blank cartridges. In order to load the gun, one must swing the cylinder open, load the blanks from the rear of the cylinder like in cartridge revolvers then load the rubber balls from the front of the cylinder like in percussion revolvers.
The Rimfire Report: NAA Sentinel + Federal 22 WMR Punch Test
Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is about the rimfire firearm world and its different types of guns, ammo, shooting sports and history! A couple of weeks ago we discussed one of my favorite firearms - the American 180. Some of you had mentioned in the comments that the AM-180 might have been even cooler if it was chambered in something like 22 Magnum. 22 Magnum has seen a bit more attention from ammunition companies and firearm companies alike with Federal Punch 22WMR being an entirely defensive-oriented rimfire load, and the new North American Arms Sentinel being a much more convenient version of their already pocket-friendly Sidewinder 22 Magnum revolver. Since these two items seem like they’d make a great match, I thought It’d be great to take both to the range and get some real-world shooting data, as well as some velocity data to see how these two fairly unique rimfire offerings pair together in the real world.
Wheelgun Wednesday: The World's Smallest Revolver is Swiss
I have noticed on Wheelgun Wednesday we like to talk about the extremes. What’s the biggest revolver ever made, what’s the oldest, what’s the most powerful. While these are certainly interesting topics and of course I want to know what is firing the biggest bullet, what about the inverse? While larger things are often more visually interesting the smaller you make something the more difficult it can be to even create. With this, I give you the Swiss Mini Gun, currently the world's smallest revolver.

Wheelgun Wednesday: Pietta Deluxe Engraved Snubnose Model 1860/1862
Welcome back to Wheelgun Wednesday, our weekly article series where we cover everything related to revolvers. Today’s topic is a rather unconventional Deluxe Engraved 1860 Army Model by Pietta, a cowboy firearm replica that may not score high in practicality in the modern world, but surely does in the looks department.
Davidson’s Exclusive Pietta King Trio: Versatile Revolver Option
Are you worried about running out of ammunition for your handgun? These days, it’s not an unreasonable thing to anticipate. Davidson’s has your back, though, with their new King Trio revolver. This comes with not one but two spare cylinders, so you can shoot whatever loose shells you find kicking around in the drawers of your local gun store. Well, not quite, but you do have your choice of four different rounds to shoot.
Wheelgun Wednesday: Charter Arms Coyote & Combo Series
Charter Arms, in my mind, is one of the most surprising and subtle companies in the world of revolvers. Every time they bring something new to the market, they do so in hushed tones and I accidentally stumble upon them like a diamond in the rough. Like, “Where the heck did this come from?” So, I submit to you example #7,892 of their awfully quiet marketing strategy - the unveiling of the Coyote Series and Combo Series.
