John Moses Browning may have laid the foundation for the classic 1911 more than 120 years ago (starting with the Model 1905!), but his big-bore design continues to live on with modern improvements. For evidence, look no further than the new Kimber 1911 DS Warrior, with the latest ergonomic improvements packed in with high-capacity shooting power.

Kimber Innovation @ TFB:

Pick Your Pistol

At launch, Kimber actually offers the new 1911 DS Warrior in different sub-models including five-inch and six-inch barrels, and your choice of 9x19mm, 10mm, .38 Super or the eternal .45 ACP, depending which version you buy.

The badge nails it. This is a much-improved handgun over the classic 1911. [Zac K.]

Mag capacity depends which chambering you choose; the forty-five comes with 13-round mags, while the .38 Super can be had with 17-round or 20-round mags. The 10mm has 15-round and 18-round options, and the 9x19mm has your choice of 17-round or 20-round magazines—or 10-rounders, if your state has a beef with regular-capacity magazines.

MSRP also varies based on which caliber you choose. The nine-mill version is listed at $1099; the big-bore boys are listed at $1299, based on Kimber’s listed prices at launch (see for yourself here).

An improved mag well should make reloads easier and quicker, while other internal tweaks stop you from jamming the magazine in too far. [Zac K.]

But no matter which one you buy, you’re getting a carbon-fiber grip, a ramped/crowned barrel, a mil-spec guide rod, and a stainless steel frame, barrel and slide, all manufactured in Troy, Alabama. A stainless-steel subframe is supposed to protect the ejector from magazine over-insertion; the mag well is designed for easier reloading. All pistols come with an accessory rail and optic cut-out.

Kimber priced these pistols as low as, or even lower than many imports, but they’re made here in the USA. [Zac K.]

And Kimber says that each pistol is built by a single technician with “unrelenting attention to detail.”

Every pistol in the series is ready for accessories and optics. [Zac K.]

In other words: You’re getting a lot of made-in-America pistol for not a lot of made-in-America money. And every pistol in this series is backed with a limited lifetime warranty. If the pistols prove popular—and if they run well, it’s hard to imagine they won’t be popular at that price point—then expect the lineup to branch out into other barrel lengths. At least, that’s what the gun community is already asking for …

I definitely will be considering one in the 10mm 6" variety

Are they putting MJD kevlar/CF/polymer grips on these? I ask because they're removing them from their higher priced 2K11's for an in house all polymer grip that isn't as good to keep the costs from inflating and this is priced an order of magnitude lower than the main 2K11's but your claiming they're putting expensive MJD grips on these.
