This is the gun of the year, at least if SK Guns gets to decide. This limited run of 300 Colt 1911 pistols chambered in .38 Super, each themed around Jesús Malverde, a well-known folk figure from the Mexican state of Sinaloa. The series continues SK Guns’ approach of producing limited-edition, series-driven firearms with distinctive historical or cultural motifs.

The 2025 edition is built on a polished Colt 1911 platform and combines multiple finishes, including 24-karat gold, .999 silver plating and a deep Colt Royal Blue. Presentation-grade black pearl Kirinite grips complete the package, each set with a gold peso medallion.

The artwork centers on elements associated with the Malverde legend. The right side of the slide features a silver-plated sword, an early-model Colt Single Action Army revolver and imagery tied to Malverde’s reputation for redistributing wealth to the poor, along with national flowers and butterfly motifs. On top of the slide, a portrait of Malverde is bordered by floral patterns, a banner reading “Bandido Generoso” and a rosary design.

The left side includes a silver-plated skull and butterfly elements said to symbolize remembrance of the deceased, with candles representing prayer and a variety of traditional Mexican flowers. These are framed with selective 24-karat gold borders and accompanied by a deep-engraved scroll pattern.

In the press release, SK Guns says the design was created to highlight the cultural themes associated with the Malverde story: “Every element of this firearm was purposefully designed to reflect the rich folklore, symbolism and cultural pride surrounding Jesús Malverde,” said Simon Khiabani, owner and founder of SK Guns. “Our team poured their passion into crafting a piece that stands as both art and tribute. This is one we’re proud to present as our 2025 Gun of the Year.”

SK Guns states that the edition is intended to honor a historical folk figure believed to have lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. According to tradition, Malverde was a laborer who later turned to banditry, gaining a reputation for taking from wealthy landowners and supporting poor communities.

Considering the high-end look and limited availability, the price may not seem too steep at $2,700, but we’ll let the comments decide.
