[IDEF 2025] TISAS Begins Production of PKM Machine Gun in Turkey

The year 1969 had plenty of good stuff going on. The legendary Woodstock music festival, Apollo 11 moon landing… There were also lesser-known events like the premiere of the first episode of Sesame Street and the beginning of production for the PKM, the most mass-produced machine gun in recent history.
Now, in 2025, Woodstock and the moon landing seem like tales of the distant past, but Sesame Street and PKMs are still with us. And apparently, some companies think that producing a 56-year-old weapon system is the way to go.
At the IDEF exhibition in Turkey, I came across the booth of the company called TISAS that showcased their new product - a faithful copy of the PKM general-purpose machine gun.
With the exception of the ammo box, everything was copied to a “T”, including wooden furniture, which some might say is not very practical. However, a lot of customers in the Middle East are quite conservative when it comes to purchasing machine guns and do prefer classic wood to soulless plastic.
If you know PKMs, you might see one unusual feature - the large rail on the left side of the receiver, just above the safety lever. However, this rail is also true to the original; it was present on PKMN, the “night” version of the machine gun that was made to be used with various night scopes.
Unfortunately, very little information was available about this machine gun. According to the brochure I was given, it is called PKM/MG 762.
If you want to know more about PKM, check out James Reeve’s video about this gun and my series of articles about its history.
