Shadow Systems Wins WVSP Contract for XR920 and CR920X Pistols
The West Virginia State Police has selected Shadow Systems as its exclusive service-pistol provider, marking another major law-enforcement contract for the Texas-based manufacturer. The agency, founded in 1919 and recognized as the fourth-oldest state police organization in the United States, will transition to the XR920 and CR920X pistol platforms following its evaluation process.

The WVSP consists of nearly 600 sworn officers responsible for statewide policing and investigative duties. Under the new contract, the agency will acquire 700 XR920 crossover pistols for trooper duty use and 80 CR920X subcompact pistols for the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
The XR920 is the company’s midsize crossover model, while the CR920X provides a higher-capacity subcompact option intended for plainclothes or investigative assignments.
According to the state police, the decision followed a detailed testing and assessment period. The evaluation focused on mechanical reliability, ergonomics, recoil characteristics, compatibility with existing duty gear, and the ability of individual officers to adapt the pistol to personal preferences. Shadow Systems pistols incorporate adjustable grip angle backstraps and feature sets that aim to reduce felt recoil while maintaining consistent function with duty ammunition.
In addition to standard-issue sidearms, troopers will have the option to select secondary or off-duty pistols from across the company’s catalog, which includes subcompact, compact, crossover, and full-size formats as well as compensated and long-slide variants. Shadow Systems currently offers more than 120 model configurations.
The new West Virginia contract expands the company’s law-enforcement footprint; more than 300 U.S. agencies now issue or authorize Shadow Systems pistols. The manufacturer notes that its design team includes former military personnel, law-enforcement officers, and competitive shooters, and all pistols are produced at the company’s Plano, Texas facility.
Shadow Systems also provides individual officer purchase programs and agency-level support for departments adopting its pistols. Further details on those programs can be found on the company’s law-enforcement website: https://shadowsystemscorp.com/leo/
