Custom & Collectable Firearms' New Hog-Bustin' Marlin Lever-Action
If you love hog hunting and you love lever-action rifles, then Custom & Collectible Firearms has a new custom job on the market that might tickle your fancy … although it appears to be far, far too nice to actually drag around the woods hog hunting. Their new, reworked Marlin 1894 SBL Wild Boar .44 Magnum does look like it would be an effective weapon against porcine prey, but the price tag and the fancy-pants aesthetic might mean you want to keep it on your wall display case.

A Solid Base
The latest release from Custom & Collectible Firearms comes from an excellent starting point—Marlin’s 1894-pattern lever-action design has been around a very, very long time (as the name implies), and the latest-production models from Ruger are built to a QC spec that wasn’t always there over the final years of production under Remington ownership.
As we told you when these rifles came back into production in 2023:
“To alleviate any concerns about the new now Ruger-made 1894s, Ruger have stressed that ‘improved manufacturing processes create tight tolerances, resulting in a reliable, attractive rifle. Multi-layered quality control procedures, including daily function and accuracy audits and multiple inspections, result in a high-quality product.’ ”

Tricked-out firepower
Custom & Collectible Firearms takes a standard rifle and tricks it out. In this case, the Marlin 1894 SBL Wild Boar .44 Magnum model fits into their wildlife series. It has a polished stainless steel finish on the 16-inch barrel (cold hammer-forged construction). The furniture is gray laminate, with sharp checkering. The receiver has fine engraving, as you can see above and below.
There’s an oversized stainless steel lever loop, a fiber-optic front sight with a tritium ring; the ghost ring rear sight is adjustable. There is a push-button cross-bolt safety, definitely not to the liking of many traditionally-minded buyers, but there’s also a hammer with half-cock for added safety, and an offset hammer spur is included. A Picatinny rail tops the receiver, making it easy to mount an optic. And Custom & Collectible Firearms includes a challenge coin with the rifle, and a certificate of authenticity (this particular rifle is sold in a series of only 300 examples produced).
Asking price is a cool $2,499, so maybe you’ll want to think twice before actually bringing this gussied-up lever gun to the hog-hunting fields. See more details here.

What’s not to like in 44mag?
Easy to reload or use factory ammo, minimal recoil, easily upgradable to a scope or red dot, stainless steel is perfect for winter hunting….
Ruger has resurrected Marlin & makes lever guns shooters want…..
