Chamber Separate From Bore - The Wolf Precision ACE System

Wolf Precision, a company from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, has developed a really interesting rifle barrel technology called the ACE System, where the chamber and the rifled bore are separate parts screwed into one another. The primary advantage of this interchangeable chamber and bore system is that it allows machining the chamber and the throat with higher precision. This company has been in business for many years and the ACE System is in its fourth generation, but somehow it slipped under our radar.

Barrel Technologies @ TFB:

According to Wolf Precision, an average reamer-cut factory chamber can have the throat crooked by as much as five to twelve thousandths of an inch, which results in the bullet engaging the riflings imperfectly, thus affecting the accuracy. In ACE System barrels, the throat is in the bore section, separate from the chamber; this design allows machining the throat much more precisely, enabling the bullet to engage all the lands and grooves simultaneously. The chamber and bore connection is sealed via a brass pressure ring sandwiched between the two parts.

The different generations of the Wolf Precision ACE System are available for the following cartridges: 223 Remington, 22 Creedmoor, 243 Winchester, 6 BR, 6 Dasher, 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5x47 Lapua, 6.5 PRC, 280 AI, 7mm-08, 7 PRC, 308 Winchester, 300 PRC, 300 Winchester Magnum.

What sets the fourth generation apart is that it allows the end users to easily change the chamber and bore portions using a wrench and barrel vise. The chamber sections are reusable and guaranteed for life. Being able to change the components of the system not only allows you to replace shot-out bores but also to shoot different cartridges of the same caliber by swapping the chambers.

To learn more about the Wolf Precision ACE System, read the U.S. Patent No. 10,330,416 that protects this invention. The company also has extensive educational content on its YouTube and Vimeo channels.
