Fans of the MP-5 series are in for a treat with the new AP5 models from Century Arms. The new versions include an “SD” clone and an extended 16-inch barrel model. Let’s break down these new models.

Century @ TFB:

The Century Arms AP5 is a family of MP-5 clones made by MKE in Turkey. They were one of the first affordable MP-5 options for the US civilian market and they have become a staple in the pistol caliber carbine scene. There are two new AP5 models, the AP5-SD and the AP5-L.

We’ll start with the AP5-SD. That SD suffix is well-known among H&K aficionados as it denotes an integral suppressor (SD being the abbreviation for Schalldämpfer, the German word for silencer). The AP5-SD is a pistol that includes a Magpul arm brace as an option rather than a traditional stock. The barrel is 5.75-inches long and sits inside a larger-diameter handguard that would also accommodate a silencer. Century Arms includes a dummy shroud that looks like an MP-5SD silencer, but is a hollow tube. Unlike other AP5 models, the SD has a pictogram lower. Atlantic Firearms has great pictures of the AP5-SD on their site and has had them in stock recently. The MSRP with the arm brace is $1,799.

The AP5-L differs from other models in the family by having a 16-inch barrel. That long barrel makes it legal in the United States to mount a stock on this rifle with no additional paperwork. A threaded 3-lug mount allows suppressor mounting on the end of the barrel, and a dummy suppressor is also included to shroud the extended barrel and make it look like a suppressor mounted to the traditional subgun barrel. The AP5-L also includes full Magpul upgrades including the SL stock, SL grip, ESK selector, and an MLOK handguard. The AP5-L has an MSRP of $1899.

From the manufacturer:

“The AP5 pistols by MKE have become legendary due to the fact they are built off the historically proven roller delayed blowback system made popular by professionals for over 50 years. This series has all the appeal of a classic platform as well as the reliability, functionality, and versatility required to meet modern demands. The AP5-L continues the evolution of the AP line and introduces 9mm ballistic advantages, driven by a 16.5 inch 1:10 twist barrel cold hammer forged barrel. Also featured on this carbine variant are a Magpul SL collapsible stock, Aklys Defense Faux Suppressor, Magpul SL Grip Module complete with ESK Selector, Magpul M-LOK handguard, and an Overwatch Precision MOD2 32-round magazine. Also included in the box is a 1913 Picatinny claw mount for optics. The AP5 legend continues.”

IMO it's kind of pointless if AP5-SD doesn't have the ported barrel/integral setup like the original SD, but I understand why

Good question. I'm pretty sure with modern tech they could make it a 1 stamp gun by only porting half the inches in a 16" barrel with the appropriate suppressor shroud. It would mean the overall length would be longer than an authentic SD, but at least the functionality would be pretty much identical.
