The MP5 has been in service for 60 years, and nobody has managed to retire it. Many police and military agencies around the world still run it in some capacity and it’s a cultural icon. Zenith Firearms makes one of the American-built civilian options in the ZF-5, and I picked one up with my own money. I had it Form 1'd as an SBR before it ever saw a range. Shooting it as a pistol was never the plan.

Leapers has announced the UTG Pro Extended Cocking Handle for the MP5 and MP5K, a one-piece steel replacement cocking handle designed to address ergonomics on a platform that was built with right-handed operation in mind. It is made in the USA and priced at $29.97.

At SHOT SHOW, South Carolina’s biggest MP5 fans, PTR, were showing off their latest addition to their roller-delayed blowback PCC line up, two new integrally suppressed SD models. Available in two versions, the 9SDM-A and 9SDM-B they are based on PTR’s 9CT. Intriguingly, both of the 9SDMs are three-stamp guns, just a couple of months ago that would have made these guns a commercial nightmare but now the changes to the NFA have come into effect, a three-stamp gun is likely to become much less of a rarity!

SDS Arms had several interesting new items on display at SHOT Show across their brands. The Inglis 2035 Hi Power adds 2011-ish upgrades to the venerable BHP platform. Additionally, Military Armament Corporation has a new price-conscious MP-5 handguard flashlight, and Spandau Arms has an R700-compatible bolt action rifle.

Sweden’s national police force is preparing to replace its long-serving MP5 submachine guns with the AK 24, the same 5.56×45mm service rifle recently adopted by the Swedish Armed Forces. The information comes from Polistidningen, the police union’s official publication.
