Ranking The Best (and Worst) Long Guns from HEAT
In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves ranks the long guns (rifles, SMGs, and shotguns) of the movie HEAT, Michael Mann’s crime drama from the 1990s. In ranking the guns, James discusses the theoretical pros and cons of the different platforms seen in the film such as the FN FAL, Benelli M3, Galil, the HK91 and H&K’s MP5, the AK-47, AR-15, and fan favorite, Al Pacino’s FN FNC. Do you agree with the list? We invite you to leave your own ranking in the comments.

I like the FN FNC rifle. For the time, it had the best natural feel, more than any other military type rifle when shouldering. The FNC was tested by the Alaska state troopers and it with the Galil and Valmet passed their cold weather tests. The AR-15 failed. The FNC has an easy to access two position adj gas setting. The barrel is approximately 17.7" long, but the actual rifled barrel is closer to 16". For a similar AK long stroke rifle, it is quite soft shooting, even when the gas setting is set to extreme. The action and gas system is the best sealed for any type of Kalashnikov rifle system. The selector ergonomics are horrible, as is the long heavy creep trigger, very reminiscent to the FAL.. The FNC's accuracy was equal to or better than any other rifle for the time of non free float barrels.. The rifle was adopted by the Indonesia armed forces, Belgium and Sweden called the AK-5 and AK-5C.
lets just put it into context for the haters: most movies have RIDICULOUS gun sounds, gun play, everything. we don't like Heat so much because of the amount of action in the movie ( its a less is more approach), its the attention to detail when it comes to firearms and how they look, sound, operate, etc.
