Supposedly the 180 grain JHP is the best .357 magnum hunting load for a carbine, combining rapid expansion and deep penetration.
My comment with the link seems to have been disappeared in moderation, so retrying with out: any chance of testing Buffalo Bore 125gr .357 loads? They claim it does 2300 ft/s out of a 18.5" Marlin 1894. If so, that's 7.62x39mm territory.
