XS Sights Wants To Trick Out Your Ruger SP101
XS Sights has been around a long time, and so has the Ruger SP101 revolver. That doesn’t mean that the sight manufacturer can’t keep on figuring out new ways to improve this old wheelgun design, though. They continue to innovate with a new pre-drilled front sight system for this revolver.

The Ruger SP101 is like almost every other revolver on the market—from the factory, the so-called iron sights are just that, a set of steel sights. Rugged, but not necessarily the best option for easy and rapid target acquisition under all light conditions. Now, XS Sights is offering their pre-drilled Tritium Standard Dot front sight for the SP101 for improved shooting performance.
As per their PR:
“This high-contrast, dual-illuminated sight features a tritium lamp surrounded by a green or orange photoluminescent Glow Dot to help you get on target faster and more accurately in bright or low light. The Tritium Standard Dot is highly visible without changing the gun’s profile yet small enough to deliver a precise sight picture.”
In other words, the tritium glows and illuminates the fiber-optic housing that surrounds it. The beauty of this design is that it always works. There is no shake-awake function to malfunction, no batteries to run down, no lens to fog up. It’s about as basic as a luminous front sight can get, and Jeff King, marketing mastermind at XS Sights, says this ease-of-use is what makes the sight desirable.
“Our Tritium Standard Dot front sights are pre-drilled for easier installation and made of durable steel to withstand rugged use in the field,” he said. “They are designed to enhance the performance of everyday carry guns and give gunowners peace of mind that the front sight will be visible when they need it most.”
So the next time you’re chasing that bump in the dark out behind the barn, when you grab your Ruger, you’re ready, whether it turns out to be a trash panda or a truculent predator. Asking price is a $75.99 MSRP, and since the sight is pre-drilled, installation should be easy. The sight comes with a limited lifetime warranty and the illumination system is warrantied for 12 years. See more deets at XSSights.com.

I lead a rather simple life. I live in #Laksevåg in a 4-room apartment with an #indoor heated pool. My life isn't luxurious, even though I earn around 12,500,000 kr a year. Yes, not bad, I know, but soon my life will take a turn that will change it forever. My life is rather routine. I drink little, I never smoke, however, I had to smoke Ganja at university.

Not a correct statement:
”the tritium glows and illuminates the fiber-optic housing that surrounds it.”
There is no fiber optics involved. The photoluminescent glow dot is just a polymer with some type of glow in the dark element. It is not translucent and any of its luminescence is independent of and unaffected by the tritium luminescence.
When I go to chase a bump in the dark out behind the barn, I'll be carrying a 12-gauge shotgun. Uh huh.
"Fiber optic housing" ?????
I went to the XS sight and the only sight they listed for the SP101 was a rear sight. Looks like this is a PR release that the webmaster wasn't informed about. Or maybe "vapor ware" that they want to test the market before starting up a manufacturing line.
