TFB Behind the Gun #182: Firearms Accuracy in Media

Although many people hate to admit it, the media is one of the biggest drivers of purchases. Whether that’s video games, TV shows, movies, or comic books, a lot of us just happen to latch on to certain products simply because they appeal to us in whatever medium we happen to be consuming at the time. Firearms are no different, and that’s why today I’ve brought on the guys from The Carry Handle Podcast, as well as Scout Trooper, to talk about how accurately firearms are represented in media like movies, games, and TV shows. Be sure to let us know what your favorite or least favorite firearms representations have been over the years!

TFB Behind the Gun #182: Firearms Accuracy in Media
Today’s episode of TFB’s Behind The Gun Podcast features Kevin and Bryce from The Carry Handle Podcast, as well as a new guest, Scout Trooper. Today we’ll be talking about something that is right up Scout Trooper’s alley - movie, TV, and video game guns. Many of our generation who grew up watching 80s action movies, playing early shooter video games, and soaking up all of the great cop TV shows that the 90s had to offer love guns because of these things. Today, we’ll be discussing our favorite media representations of guns, our least favorite, and, of course, everything in between when it comes to the intersection of our favorite pastimes.

My wife finds it endlessly amusing that I reflexively point out firearm-related nonsense with genuine indignation whenever we're watching something together. This week we watched episodes of the classic Raymond Burr series Ironside wherein police in Tokyo were carrying sidearms with the epaulet lanyards just stuffed into the holster because the propmaster couldn't find any revolvers with the proper lanyard loops screwed into the frame, and I pointed and laughed at another where a detective was startled by the sound of gunshots behind him and supposedly managed to drop and roll and make a ~50yd headshot with a concealed snubnose .38 while standing up.
