Although many people hate to admit it, the media is one of the biggest drivers of purchases. Whether that’s video games, TV shows, movies, or comic books, a lot of us just happen to latch on to certain products simply because they appeal to us in whatever medium we happen to be consuming at the time. Firearms are no different, and that’s why today I’ve brought on the guys from The Carry Handle Podcast, as well as Scout Trooper, to talk about how accurately firearms are represented in media like movies, games, and TV shows. There's something about certain firearms in movies that just sticks with you long after the credits roll. These aren't necessarily the best guns in real life - hell, some of them are pretty terrible choices for actual use - but they became legends because of how they were used on screen. I'm not claiming this is the definitive list or anything like that. There are probably fifty other guns that could make a case for being here. But these ten? They changed how we think about firearms in movies, and some of them even influenced the real gun market in ways that surprised everyone.

Ironically, such films were probably responsible for saving lives in the 1980s, by leading gang-bangers to believe they didn’t actually need to aim during a drive-by shooting—if you could spray and pray from the hip, like the movies, surely it was good enough?

The .45 Colt Single Action Army used by Russell Crowe in the 2007 remake of 3:10 to Yuma is up for auction on GunBroker.com. It includes a range of documents confirming its provenance as the actual gun from the film. In addition to those documents, the gun’s serial number can be seen in the film and matched to this firearm.
