In 2023, the Finnish Defense Forces (FMV) signed a framework agreement with Sako for small arms procurement, followed in 2024 by a framework agreement with Barrett for AG 90D automatic rifles. The Sako agreement, set to run for ten years, is part of a joint Swedish-Finnish procurement program for small arms systems and associated technology. The goal of the initiative is to ensure supply security for both Finland and Sweden while improving interoperability, as both countries will employ the same types of weapons and compatible ammunition.

Swedish Armed Forces @ TFB:

The new rifles are the Sako TRG M10 and the Barret M107 A1. In terms of optics, you’re looking at the Hensoldt ZF 3,5-26x56 in a Spuhr mount, Cerakoted in HIR-601. This color is sometimes described as Swedish Flat Dark Earth, and it’s a protected color.

The new systems provide the Swedish Defense Forces with a family of modern, lighter weapons featuring improved ergonomics and enhanced adjustability to accommodate different body sizes.

Integration of the new firearms into service will be phased as deliveries occur. The rollout includes training for instructors, technical staff, and other personnel, along with the provision of training materials and maintenance support.

By the looks of it, that would qualify as a decent hit. The new sniper and anti-materiel rifles for Sweden are demonstrated.

Here are the descriptions of the two new rifle systems:

Sniper Rifle PSG23 (Sako TRG M10)

The PSG 23 is a bolt-action rifle with a cylinder mechanism in calibers 8.6×70 mm and 7.62×51 mm. It will be used by the Swedish Armed Forces' snipers.

  • Length: 1,217 mm
  • Weight: 6.3 kg without accessories, empty magazine
  • Caliber: 8.6×70 mm Lapua Magnum, 7.62×51 mm NATO
  • Barrel length: 689 mm (27 inches)

Automatic Rifle AG 90D (Barrett M107 A1)

The Anti-Materiel Rifle 90D (AG 90D) is a semi-automatic, air-cooled weapon with short recoil operation and a rotating bolt mechanism. The AG 90D is intended for material destruction and ammunition disposal.

  • Length: 1,448 mm

  • Caliber: 12.7×99 mm

TFB has, of course, tried the Barrett, but with a few twists: Shooting The Barrett M107 A1 – Suppressed & With Pulsar Thermal
