Good news about a gun can come in two forms—you can hear that the gun design itself was improved, or you can hear that you now have it available in your favorite caliber. Show Low Manufacturing’s Gen 3 pistol caliber carbine fits both those categories. The third-generation update made the rifle more usable, but they also now offer it in 10mm and .45 ACP to boot.

Pistol caliber carbines @ TFB:

Background check

But first, a few words on Show Low itself; it’s a small manufacturer based in Show Low, Arizona. They showed off a detent-delayed blowback action PCC in 9x19mm at SHOT Show in 2024. In 2025, they brought in a new roll pin delay system that was more robust, still offering the same benefits of reduced weight and improved accuracy. This year, they had their third-generation version of the Black Jack carbine on display, and it looks like it took a big step forward again with this iteration.

Useful upgrades

In recent months, Show Low has redesigned the Black Jack to accept an AR handguard, which in turn lets them simplify the gun elsewhere—they’ve cut 20 screws from the gun’s assembly. Admittedly, some have been replaced by pins instead (in the bolt), but still, reducing complexity is useful, and there’s another advantage to the changed design: They’ve cut a pound of weight off the gun.

But even better, they did some tinkering with their 10mm design. Show Low had a prototype in this caliber out at the 2025 show, but it ran on MP5 magazines—and ten-mil MP5 mags are both rare and expensive. And, they didn’t work very well with Show Low’s design. So they redesigned the system to work with H&K UMP mags, which are lower-priced, more readily available, and best of all, they run better in the gun. And because the UMP mags also handle .45 ACP, Show Low was able to rebarrel their design in that caliber as well. Now they offer 9x19mm, 10mm and .45 ACP.

The internals on all guns are roughly the same, running OK with a wide range of different loads. Show Low says their suppressor testing shows their rifles continue to function well with a range of bullet weights even with a can on the end. All their carbines have threaded barrels, and they may be offering a package deal with Unorthodox Suppressors in the future. Keep an eye on their site for when that happens.

Uhhh... You guys mean UMP mags. USP and UMP mags are very very different things.

The one image clearly looks like a Stribog 10mm magazine... I keep hoping to see more affordable 10mm UMP pattern magazines in general, and even better some 30rd ones.
