[SHOT 2026] Nosler 400 Legend Whitetail Country & Reloading Bullets
Nosler launched its Whitetail Country ammunition line in October 2024 as factory-loaded ammo only, and at SHOT Show 2026 they're releasing the Solid Base and Straight-Wall bullets as reloading components. The company also expanded the loaded ammunition lineup to include .400 Legend, now shipping with a 215-grain Straight-Wall bullet for $40.95 per 20 rounds.
NOTE: For clarity, the Whitetail Country reloading bullets are split into two categories of the same sub product line and are literally called “ Solid Base” and “ Straight-Wall”.
The .400 Legend factory load uses Nosler's 215-grain Straight-Wall bullet designed specifically for the lower velocities typical of straight-wall cartridges. The flat-base design features a thin jacket at the tip with skived sections that initiate reliable expansion even at extended ranges. The truncated nose profile is designed to feed smoothly through lever actions and bolt guns while the form-fitted lead core maintains stability and accuracy. Nosler lists the ballistic coefficient at 0.215 G1, with testing conducted from a 24-inch barrel with 1:20 twist.
When Nosler first released Whitetail Country, handloaders immediately asked for the bullets sold separately. Nosler answered by offering component bullets in the same weights used in their factory loads.
Nosler Whitetail Country Component Bullets:
- 6mm 100-gr Solid Base Spitzer
- 6.5mm 140-gr Solid Base Spitzer
- .270 130-gr Solid Base Spitzer
- 7mm 140-gr Solid Base Spitzer
- .30 150-gr Solid Base Round Nose (with cannelure)
- .30 150-gr Solid Base Spitzer
- .30 165-gr Solid Base Spitzer
- .350 Legend (.355) 180-gr Straight-Wall
- .400 Legend (.400) 215-gr Straight-Wall
- .45 Cal (.458) 300-gr Straight-Wall
Solid Base bullets feature Nosler's fifth-generation tapered jacket with a heavy solid base for controlled expansion and deep penetration. The boat-tail design improves ballistic coefficient for hunters stretching shots past 300 yards. Straight-Wall bullets use thinner jackets with skived tips to ensure expansion at the slower impact velocities these cartridges deliver. Component bullet pricing will vary by caliber and quantity.
Would you load your own Whitetail Country bullets, or does the factory ammo pricing already undercut your reloading costs enough to stick with loaded rounds? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
